Lodge

Rites and Ritual

N'Aton

Beginning with the initial Praxis, a number of rites were created by the Inner Council of the H.M.L. as were needed. Of course, the book Maat Magick (Nema, Weisers Publishing) is a must read and it contains many Double Current rites as well. What follows are many of the original Core Rites (bold) as they were transmitted to Soror Andahadna (Nema) and the G.S.S. in the early years of the HML. It should be emphasized that they emerged naturally as needed from the Double-Current via the H.M.L.

Some of these rituals, clearly, are older, but are included because of their proven value in manifesting the Double-Current.

Added to this core group of original rites are a number of newer rites generated by contemporary members of the HML.

All these rites are for EVERYONE who Wills to use them Under Love- no restrictions.

If you want to Enter the Lodge- it is very simple: Doing the HML Initiation Rite automatically places one within the H.M.L.- Then get on our elist ! -93/696  !

Rituals are always being added to the H.M.L.- maybe by you? If you have an appropriate Double Current Ritual, let us know.

NEXUS OF HORUS/MAAT RITUAL

131* 12/3/95

Needed:  Feather, Crystal, Chalice, Red Candle,  Wine

0. Banish:
Silence. Cast a circle with feather counterclockwise with black flames that banish chanting:   LUTIS NITRA...........
1.  The Center:
Light the candle with pure light manifesting, chanting:  AUM.........   HA!
2. The Circle:
Pass the candle from hand-to-hand clockwise casting the red-flame circle, with each pass everyone chanting:  ABRAHADABRA........

Candle back on altar. Pass the feather around, hand-to-hand, each peering at the flame through the feather, all chanting: IPSOS..........

3. The Uniting:
All touch the base of the chalice with their left hands, see it glowing with ultraviolet light, all chanting:  AGAPE........

Without moving the left hands, all pick up the crystal together using their right hands, see it glowing with infra-red light, all chanting: THELEMA.......

All together, plunge the crystal into the chalice, all seeing the two currents of energy swirl and blend as a rainbow light into the galaxy that
is inside the chalice, all chanting:  OM MANE PADME HUM.........N'ATON!!!!

4. The Becoming/Thanking:
All place fingers to lips in the sign of silence. In silence, each sips the sacred wine until all are finished. The light is felt within. The last bit
is poured onto the ground, all chanting:  GAIA!

Then arms raised up, chanting:  TO ME TO ME!

The crystal is placed in the chalice with the feather placed on top.

5. The Going:

DO WHAT THOU WILT SHALL BE THE WHOLE OF THE LAW
LOVE IS THE LAW, LOVE UNDER WILL!

Blow out the candle and go.

HML Basic Rite

This is the simple and basic ritual used for most workings within the H.M.L. Any ritual work done in the '***' part of the rite (that is, whatever you chose to do) will be supercharged by the Double Current.
1. The Sign of Silence -- (Index finger to lips)
2. Spiral dance clockwise slowly towards the center, saying/inhaling IPSOS.
This is done in the Sign of Silence with one complete in-breath. The word said once is vibrated in your being until silence.
The word Ipsos is inhaled with a deep slow dissolving breath.
3. Stopping in the center of the spiral as the word ceases. say:
NU! THE HIDING OF HADIT.
*** (Whatever ritual work you have come to do)
4. Make the Sign of the Enterer -- (Arms straight out, striding forward)
5. Spiral dance from the center clockwise, returning to the circumference,
Vibrate the word ABRAHADABRA as you do so in a loud strong projection of the out-breath while spiraling. In this motion extend, in breath arms and
legs as the sign dictates.
6. Stop at the point of origin, say: HAD! THE MANIFESTATION OF NUIT.

It is recommended that you banish before and after the rite using the Spacemarks Banishing or another.

In essence the signs, the motions and the vibrations of the words are complete movements to be finished by the verses. The two motions united cause the Double Current. As a circle, this dance can be used to start and finish any ritual. It is an atmosphere to create in and the leap to manifestation.

IPSOS FEATHER RITE

To contact the Maat Current.
Needed: A candle and a feather.

It takes a little temple space, you, a feather, and a candle. Have a level surface that's about head-high when you're in a comfortable asana (I have a low built altar that does it for me). Upon this place a lighted candle about two feet away from you, more or less. Give enough time for the mind to mellow out with the words, concepts, memories etc. When inner quiet obtains, hold a feather between your mouth and the candle, and repeat the word IPSOS as an audible mantram. The breath should touch the feather, but not the flame, when they are aligned. The Word, as it's repeated, will gradually fade to silence, and will continue on the inner, again fading to levels increasingly more deep. The feather, the flame, the word and the breath are all symbols/manifestations of Maat--; at the moment of Silence within the breath and the word. Maat will touch you...the description of her manifestation need not be spoken here.

- Andahadna (Nema)

SPACE MARKS BANISHING

"If this be not aright; if ye confound the space-marks, saying; they are one, or saying they are many; if the ritual be no ever unto me; then expect the direful judgments of Ra-Hoor-Khuit!"

This Space-Marks banishing is used by Horus/Maatian Magickians. Soror Andahadna (Nema) developed the Maat/Banishing to 'permit clarity of transmission.' Later, Fr. Aossic Aiwass suggested the above space-marks arrangement for the Banishing. You trace a large 'X' with the sword or knife point at each direction at each of the compass points, beginning at the South and working counter clockwise.

What is between the four cardinal points of the compass could very well be a source for reactivating ancient atavisms!

LIBER QOPH vel HECATE Sub Figura C

Hail Luna, as you rise, IxChel,
Kia, Lady pale,
Queen of dreams, Cast your spell,
Of triple veil
Ar-iadne, Ar-ianhrod, Ar-achne Moerae,
Hail Hecate
Of faces three,
Shining from afar,
Spider of Destiny
In your web of Silver Stars

WAXING MOON:

 Hail Diana, Huntress,
As you draw your silver bow,
Hail Artemis and Io,
Oh Horned waxing luminous present glow
Nu and numinous maiden crescent shewn

Hail Clotho, Spinner of life's thread
Drawn forth from Nix Night
Turning Fate's first strands
With nimble hands
Twining twixt the dark and bright

FULL MOON:

 Hail MoonMother,
Full and fecund, round and bright,
Isis, We draw you down from the night,
With your cauldron-womb of luminous white

Hail Lachesis, Weaver, Craft your web
Weave the lines between the times
Of wax and wane; And tides
Of flow and ebb
Gossamer silver cords
Of dreaming draw together
In your matrix matted of matter and ether
DreamMother, give Birth
As your light shines down to Earth

WANING MOON:

Hail, Grandmother Spider,
Crone and crow,
Wisewoman, elder, seer,
Help us face, and destroy
Our fear
Hail Hecate of the Crossroads,
Oh old and ominous presence glowing
Your waning numinous crescent going

Hail Atropos, Cutter,
With your waning silver scythe,
You cut

the thread of Life.

DARK MOON:

There is a fourth face, though unseen
There is a fourth path, whom few know
A fourth Fate, who awaits
In shadow

Hail Kali, Blackness,
>From whom the kalas of Time emiT
Three Norns converged,
Past, present, future merged,
On the path of Blood beyond the Wheel we surge and scry

To Caer Arianhrod, Castle in the Sky

Hail Nought, Not, Nuit, Maat,
Yours the dark and secret art

While crone's scythe cuts breath and with death
The thread of life appears to dwindle
>From No-thing you craft another mask
And re-splice it back, on another track
To Clotho's spindle

COMMENTARY:

This work is a daily lunar prayer, adoration or salutation complementary to Aleister Crowley's solar adoration 'Liber Resh vel Helios.'
Unlike Liber Resh, it is concerned with moonthly cycles rather than daily ones, and is thus to be performed but once nightly, preferably on the rising of the moon. The first verse is for every night, the others are to be alternated according to the phase of the Moon. Thus use of this liber helps attune one to the natural cycles of the moon's course.

Unlike Liber Resh which aside from its Hebrew-Greek title deals solely with Egyptian deities, Liber Qoph draws from a variety of mythological and cultural pantheons to represent different aspects of the lunar goddess -Greek, Egyptian, Mayan, Incan, Celtic, Norse. Primarily it is a prayer to the Greek three Fates, the Moerae -spinner, weaver, cutter- introducing also the fourth unseen face of this triple Goddess, and her function as a hidden fourth Fate. In the Sabbatical tradition there is a secret fourth 'dark road' from the 3-way crossroads Hecate traditionally habitates.  Many thanks to Alexander Blok and Alobar Greywalker for the inspiration to include this Fourth phase.
Collectively the Moerae are known as 'Moira', the archetype of the Justice/Adjustment tarot trump, thus relating to Maat.

The purpose of this work is balancing the solar energies of Liber Resh vel Helios with lunar energies, as complementary metaphors for the conscious and subconscious mind. Resh is the Hebrew letter which corresponds with the Sun astrologically and the Sun tarot card and is symbolized by the front of the head. Qoph is the Hebrew letter which corresponds with the Moon astrologically and the lunar High Priestesstarot card and is symbolized by the back of the head. Similarly in ancient Hindu tantric texts the Ajna ('third eye') chakra is considered solar and the Bindu chakra on the back of the head is considered lunar, even as physiologically the Cerebrum or conscious 'rational' mind is in the front of the head and the Cerebellum concerned with subconscious dreams and visions is located in the back of the head. The subconscious reflects the conscious mind in the same way the moon reflects the light of the sun -thus in the human head the alchemical metaphor of the Hieros Gamos or 'sacred marriage' of sun and moon is medically validated.

These solar and lunar energies can be united in the pineal gland in the centre of the head, the gland which is actually physiologically responsible for our natural sense of time by tracking the light of the sun and the moon.

By traditional Hebrew gematria, the letter Resh=200 and the letter Qoph=100, which is also the number of the lunar Goddess Hecate! 200 + 100 = 300, the value of Shin, the Hebrew letter of fire and spirit. Thus the raising of the kundalini fire/prana to the head and union of the ida and pingala solar and lunar energies in the centre of the brain, the pineal gland (the physiological 'third eye') causes the prana to fountain up through the Sahasrara crown chakra into Union with the All.

This liber, intended to be read aloud daily, brings subconscious strata to conscious attention and attunes us to the cycles and rhythmns of the moon's phases. Combined with daily practise of Liber Resh it can aid this union of the solar and lunar energies within the centre of the brain.

It is particularly pertinent in our modern world where electric light interferes with the natural functions of the pineal gland.
It is recommended that whenever possible the work be read outdoors, under the light of the moon. However unlike Liber Resh forwhich the sun should be faced directly, Liber Qoph vel Hecate should be read with the moon behind you, so as to absorb its subtle energies in through the Bindu Chakra on the Qoph or back of the head.

Hail Hecate!

ADDENDUM:

Moonths after the writing of this Liber regular practise of the adorations began to effect my dreaming. I awoke one full moon from a lunar dreamscape with the realization that there are four lunar 'Ar's worshipped in the work: ARiadne, ARianhrod, ARachne, ARtemis - even as there are four forms of the solar Ra adored daily in Liber Resh vel Helios. Presumably practise of the two complementary works brought this subconscious strata to my conscious attention, even as the light of the moon Ar reflects the light of the Sun RA.

H.M.L. Initiation Rite

The Temple shall be set up as the adepts desire.  Upon the altar shall be a representation of the H.M.L. Seal (red triangle w/black feather) as well as a copy of Liber AL and Pennae Praenumbra and any other divination tools one may wish as well as a hidden mirror. Many also place a reproduction of the Stele of Revealing and a feather there.

Light incense, candle etc. as ye will. (Abramelin incense is perfect if you have it, otherwise another ‘resinous wood or gum’ incense.)

The initiate sits in the center of the circle blindfolded or veiled.

!–the list in the original starts at 0–!

  1. Spacemarks Banishing
    - Say: DO WHAT THOU WILT SHALL BE THE WHOLE OF THE LAW!
  2. The initiating adepts dance about the initiate clockwise channeling the 93 current into him or her, chanting ABRAHADABRA, names & titles of Horus, and the paths and spheres of the dayside tree of life & the sun at random as the mood takes them. Visualize & Channel: Force & Fire!
  3. Stop for a still-point of balance and stillness.
  4. In the Sign of Silence, reverse the circle so the adepts are dancing counterclockwise for the 696 current. The adepts invoke IPSOS and the names & titles of Maat, the tunnels and caverns of the Nightside tree & the Moon at random as the mood takes them. Visualize & Channel: Black Flames & Balance!
  5. As the Double Current Manifests in expansive stillness afterward, whip the veil off the initiate and hold before him or her the mirror at eye level. All the adepts place their hands upon the head of the initiate and channel the vision of the Double Current United into the initiate, saying: N’ATON!
  6. Oracles are then read: Random bibliomancy in both AL and Liber
P.P. and the oracle of one’s choice (pulling a Tarot Trump has been traditional.)All close the circle by proclaiming: LOVE IS THE LAW, LOVE
    UNDER WILL!
  7. Spacemarks Banishing

The H.M.L. has no degrees, levels, leaders or followers. Anyone can initiate anyone else at any time. If you are familiar with how to do this rite then you are already in! This merely formalizes the event. Feel free to modify the rite as you will, it is an awakening and no two people awaken the same way. The rite and it’s dance and chanting are meant to be totally spontaneous and improvised, they must come from the heart. If possible, a feast should follow.

If you are working solo, it is perfectly OK to initiate oneself. The veil need not be used at all and one must simply play all the parts. This is as valid and important as any other initiation, depending on the Will of the adept.

Double Current Feather Consecration

(while standing upon the earth, raise your chosen feather to the sky and say)

At the still point of spirit

in the judgment hall of Truth

I seal the sign of ongoing balance,

this feather that bears the sky-gods in motion.

Here is a counter-weight to my heart,

and the quill-plume of the Scribe.

(pass the feather through incense smoke)

May this carry my soul as a whirling wind

high to the heights of the storming sky

and the curving arch of purple night.

Spiral higher in timeless flight,

reveal the pattern of the dance.

(pass the feather quickly over the fire, so that light shines through)

Born to touch the burning stars

the pulse of life within the heart

beats to the turning of day and night.

The honey-gold nectar of solar flame

ignites rainbow wings of rising life.

(splash the feather with water)

The sea-bird wheels in silent hunting

then swifter than the wave descends

with dark death riding her claws;

diving deep among ocean’s mysteries

to seize the gold and silver fish.

(touch the feather to altar-stone)

By the single breath behind many masks

that speaks creation’s silent word

I wield the power of this symbol:

The double force of Vulture and Hawk,

the circling serpent, the Aeon’s black flame.

(hold the feather to your heart)

By Nu who conceals Hadit, and Had the seed of Nuit!

By Horus and Harpocrates, who go forth and return!

By Babalon, who guards the Grail

and rides upon the sun-crowned Beast!

I charge this feather with magicks of Maat,

She who was, is Not, and shall be:

Who stands between pillars dark and bright

crowned with the radiant feather of truth,

wrapped in the veil of the triple beyond

and giving the sign of millions-of-years.

Tahuti speaks the Words of Ages,

Pan pipes the music for the double-wanded dancer.

Ychronos, conjure it!   Chthonos, conjure it!

Abrahadabra!   Ipsos!

(make the sign of silence, touching the feather to your lips)

Consecration-Dedication Rite/93 MAAT

By Nema

It is suggested the celebrant bathe and rinse the body with the traditional hyssop-water as a preceremonial ablution/preparation. The Temple shall be appointed and arranged as follows:

The altar shall be bare. The Circle, which is the boundary of the Universe, shall be scribed astrally. About its circumference are arranged the following:

To the South, the Wand and candleflame.

To the West, the Chalice and vessel of water.

To the North, the Pantacle and a small mound of earth.

To the East, the Sword and the feather.

Central is a vessel of oil (pure olive oil or one’s personal scent);
small quantities, in appropriate containers, of salt, rice, and milk;
one’s “badge of office” – robe, crown, or ring; a vessel of wine.

Enter naked.

Approach the Circle from the South, in the Sign of the Enterer. Walk
the Circle deosil, and at the East, assume the gesture of
Heru-Pa-Kraat. Banish, according to the rite given previously.Face
the center of the Circle and proclaim:

“Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

“By the same mouth that declares the Law, shall the Will be spoken and
the Work be vowed.

“THELEMA! AGAPE! ABRAHADABRA! IPSOS!”

Extend the arms upward, palms to the sky.”

“To NUIT!”

“By HADIT!”

“In the Name of RA-HOOR-KHUIT!”

Proceed to the South, stand before Wand and candle flame, facing
outward. Take up the Wand in the right hand, pass it through the
flame, hold it aloft, saying:

“This Wand is the weapon of my Will. It is the phallus of my
spirit,the sceptre of my Kingdom.”

Turn to the center of the Circle, pour a few drops of oil upon the
Wand, and return to the South, facing outward. Rub the oil into
the Wand: as you do so, chant then Name SHAITAN-AIWASS – loudly at first,
then diminishing to a whisper. Breathe the whispered Name into the Wand
as you anoint it. Then:

“In the Name SHAITAN-AIWASS, I will work for the manifestation of the
Law of Thelema. I will work for the establishment of Truth, Balance and
Justice in the Kingdom. I will work for the evolution of the Universe.”

Keep silence for a space, then, with Wand in hand, proceed to the West.
Place the Wand before the Chalice. Take up the Chalice, rinse it
with the water, hold it aloft, saying:

“This Chalice is the weapon of my Love. It is the yoni of my spirit,
the Graal of my Kingdom. “

Proceed with the anointing as with the Wand, this time using the Name
BABALON-MAAT. Then:

“In the Name BABALON-MAAT, I love thee, NUIT, all that is, and is not!
I love thee, Lord PAN, god of living beauty! I love thee, Man,sleeper
in the night of pain and madness.”

Keep silence for a space, then, with Wand and Chalice, proceed to the
North. Place the weapons before the Pantacle. Take up the Pantacle,
rest it upon the earth, then hold it aloft, saying:

“This Pantacle is the weapon of my Bodies. It is the Word of my spirit,
the seal of my Kingdom.”

Proceed with the anointing as above, using the Name NUIT-HADIT.Then:

“In the Name NUIT-HADIT, I am King and Mage. I am Priest, Hermit,
Warrior, and Fool. I am the Dancer of the Mask; the Mask conceals
nothing.”

Keep silence for a space. Then, with the three weapons, proceed to the
East. Place them before the Sword. Take up the Sword, touch it to
the feather, hold it aloft. saying:

“This Sword is the weapon of my Mind. It is the sentinel of my spirit,
the warrior of my Kingdom.”

Proceed with the anointing as above, using the Name

HERU-RA-HA. Then:

“In the Name HERU-RA-HA, I know that we dream as we dance. I know the
Law that governs the play of the dream. I know that I am as much
illusion as the rest of the Dream.”

Leaving the weapons assembled in the East, return to the center.Anoint
the Chakras with the oil, saying:

(At base of spine) “I dedicate and consecrate my body of flesh to the
Great Work. I will keep it in strength and health to this end.”

(Genitals ) “I dedicate and consecrate my astral body and sexual power
to the Great Work. I will make love only under Will, and always to
NUIT.”

(Navel) “I dedicate and consecrate my etheric body and my Chi to the
Great Work. I will fight as warrior and brother, and will strike low
and hard.”

(Heart) “I dedicate and consecrate my complete identity, Inner and
Outer, to the Great Work. All that I am, yea, to the last drop of
blood, I pour into the Chalice of our Lady BABALON.”

(Throat) “I dedicate and consecrate my speech and my silence to the
Great Work. I will speak only Truth, and keep silence forever
within.”

(Third Eye ) “I dedicate and consecrate my vision to the Great Work. I
will behold all things with clarity, making no difference between any
one thing and any other thing, soever.”

(Back of skull) “I dedicate and consecrate my Observer, the True
Self, to the Great Work. I will accept my non-existence, and again
become Tao.”

(Top of skull) Silence.

Put on the ring/crown/robe. Take up the vessels of salt, rice and milk.
Beginning at the South, cast a few grains/drops beyond the circle at
each compass-point, saying.

“To thee, SHAITAN-AIWASS, are the kingdoms of the Kingdom.”

(West) “To thee, BABALON-MAAT, are the kingdoms of the Kingdom.”

(North) “To thee, NUIT-HADIT, are the kingdoms of the Kingdom.”

(East) “To thee, HERU-RA-HA, are the kingdoms of the Kingdom.”

Return to the center with the vessels. Take the wine to the East.Pour
wine into the Chalice. Take up the Wand, and proceed with VIII*,
making
sure the Elixir flows onto the Wand.

Transfer the Elixir to the wine: using the Wand, stir to
commingle. Dip
the Sword-point into the Chalice, so the fluid runs down the blade.
Spill a few drops upon the Pantacle.

Turn to the center of the Circle, holding the Chalice in the left hand,
the Wand in the right, and declare:

“I will pursue the Great Work to its completion. I will continue from
life to life, from world to world; yea, until the end of Time, until
the evolution of the Universe be domplete. This is my Work, my Word, my
Will, my Love.”

“ABRAHADABRA”

“IPSOS.”

Drink from the Chalice, to the final drop. Place the weapons upon the
Altar.

“So mote it be.

“Love is the law, love under will.”

The closing banishment is done by making the Mark of the Beast at each
station deosil, as follows:

Maat: Magick of Heritage & the Rite of the Children

Maat Magick is a Thelemic Magick whose purpose is to change the human race from Homo sapiens to Homo verita by means of personal transformation.

Along with the individual Initiatory work, Maat Magick includes large-scale rituals with many participants. Three of these were performed at consecutive Winterstars (’84-’86): the Tree of Life, the Elevenstar Working and the Circus of the Aeons.

The large-scale rites are intended to cause global change, to affect the entire species of humanity–including the participants. The individual praxis of Maat Magick also includes world-scale workings, but numbers multiply the effects. Through sincere participation, each ritualist becomes a living talisman who radiates the specific energies of the rite throughout his/her sphere of influence.

Concentration and focus on the ritual generates double consciousness among the participants, which is the condition of being Homo veritas. This workshop includes just such a ritual. Since showing is better than telling, experiencing is better than listening or reading. Every problem perceived should suggest its own remedy.

The ideas of this rite began with the image of a child. The Child, whether in the form of Harpocrat, baby Krishna, Cupid, the infant Hermes, etc., represents all the world’s children, from quickening to puberty.

With the image of the Child came the image of the Forgotten One of altruism. Altruism here means the urge to give help to strangers. The Forgotten Ones are human survival instincts and urges, hard-wired into our neurosystem, and often at odds with our assumptions, lifestyles and self-image. The basic ones are hunger, sex, fight or flight, clanning, communication, curiosity, altruism and religion.

A little contemplation of the Forgotten Ones reveals the relationships among them, their complimentary and sometimes conflicting natures, and the circumstances under which some are primary and others are subordinated in action.
They are also linked to the major Chakras in ascending order.

Homo sapiens is only a phase of human existence, aspiring to civilization and maturity, but usually in the throes of confusion and conflict. As a whole, our passions and actions are not serving us well.

Envision the children of the world: some are loved and cherished, well cared-for and educated. Others are hungry and abused, exploited and neglected. One can only guess at the proportions, but even one child in pain merits our attention and help.

Consider the legacy of the planet they stand to inherit from us, as we inherited it from our ancestors. We’re in the process of using up non-renewable resources, fouling the air, water and land, and destroying countless species of plants and animals
who are our priceless companions in life.

Think about the lies and crippling attitudes we’re teaching the impressionable minds and characters of the children. We teach them, directly or indirectly, that wealth equals worth, that differences in race, gender and nationality indicate superiority and inferiority, and that moral choices are to be governed by expediency, public opinion, authority or dead literature.

I offer these motives for making altruism with children a strong component of your Magick:

    1. Enlightened self-interest. If reincarnation is a reality, our descendants will be our ancestors. How we care for them and the planet bears directly on the world we’ll live in.
    2. Manifested transcendence. By spending time and energy on the children of the world, we reach beyond our restricting egos into a larger existence. Since Initiation involves the expansion of consciousness, such active reaching assists our own spiritual growth.
    3. The legacy of love under will. Our influence, for good or ill, will outlive our mortal bodies as it spreads, in a ripple effect,
    4. from one individual to another, through the years.

We don’t need to be physical parents to achieve a type of immortality. Through world Magick focusing on the well-being of all children, we encourage and sponsor their development and evolution.

It should go without saying that in order to fully earth any Magickal working, the essence of it needs to be put into practice in everyday life. Organizations for children stand in constant need of volunteers and donors of time as well as money.

I invite you to join with me in a Maat ritual for the protection and well-being of the children of the world.

Nema

Panaeonic Invocation

Prepare a private place as Temple, indoors or out. At the compass points place the following:

East: sword, iron, green candle
South: wand, gold, red candle
West: chalice, silver, blue candle, wine
North: pantacle, mercury, silver/gray candle
Center: drum, incense, copper, steel/brass, black and gold candles

After suitable meditation and awareness of the items around you, their positions and significance, beat the drum and dance around the Circle, widdershins and deosil. Invoke Bes with chanting as inspiration directs you, in time with the drum. When the energy has reached the proper pitch, lie at full length and call down to the Underworld.

“I invoke you, Bes, ancestor of my bones. Lost in the mist of Time, you live in me in the patterns of my cells and the deepest parts of my brain. Awaken to new life within me; let the power of your passions and fears drive my Magick to its rightful end.”

Pause here. and after each invocation until you have become the god and see from His/Her perspective. Arise and approach the West. Pour the wine into the chalice, then pace the circle widdershins and deosil, asperging with your fingertips and the wine. Stop at the West and elevate the chalice, saying:

“I invoke you, Isis, Triple Goddess; maiden, mother, and crone. Though I came from you and will return to you, you live in me in love and compassion for all things. Awaken to new life within me; let the power of your patience and endurance sustain my Magick to its rightful end.”

Drink the wine and replace the chalice. Approach the East; seize the sword and wield it about the circle widdershins and deosil. Brandish it as though fighting an enemy. Stop at the East, ground the sword and say:

“I invoke you. Osiris, Dying and Rising Lord. Though you are the seed that gave me life and gives rebirth to all of Nature, you live in me as logic and control of action. Awaken to a new and purified life within me; let the power of your commanding direct my Magick to its rightful end.”

Salute with sword to brow, then replace the sword. Approach the South. Grasp the wand, elevate it, then trace spirals down and around you as you stride the circle widdershins and deosil. Stop at the South and say:

“I invoke you, Horus, Crowned and Conquering Child. You are the Lord of Force and Fire, living in me as my True Will and its manifestation. Awaken to life within me; let the power of your invincibility speed my Magick to its rightful end. Touch the wand to the genitals, heart and
third eye, then replace it.

Approach the North, grasp the pantacle, elevate it, then spiral about it as a center as you move around the circle, widdershins and deosil. Stop at the North, and say:

“I invoke you, Maat, Witness of Truth in all things. You are She Who Moves, that which is life itself in all my various bodies. Awaken my awareness of you within me; let the power of your balance manifest my Magick in its rightful end.”

Kiss the pantacle and replace it. Approach the center, ignite the incense, then cense the circle widder shins and deosil. Return to the center and replace the incense. Spread your arms heavenward and gaze up, saying:

“I invoke you, Harpocrat, infant Lord of Silence. You are that within me of which I may not speak. Awaken me to possession of your fullness; let the power of your innocence grace my Magick in its rightful end.”

Envision yourself as being of both genders. Reach out your awareness to the Universe; at the same time plunge within yourself to the Hollow Center. Stretch your sense of self to encompass the Earth, to become it and all its living creatures.

When fullness of consciousness is achieved, pronounce the Words of Power. If it be your Will, here begin VIIIº and use the Words as mantra, changing to the voice of command at the climax. Have the pantacle ready to receive the Elixir. If the use of VIIIº is not your Will, vibrate each Word once in the voice of command, pausing between them to follow their vibrations into the Current. Say:

“LASHTAL”

“BABALON”

“VIAOV”

“ABRAHADABRA”

“IPSOS”

Place your finger to your lips in Silence.

If VIIIº was used, annoint the candles, tools, and metals and consume the rest.

Sit in meditation in the center of the circle until your bodies are in balance with the forces, then extinguish the candles and depart the Temple.

The PanAeonic Invocation will be effective in direct proportion to the Magician’s state of attainment, to enable the Magician to make use of the ways of all Aeons. For those who have established and are working with a TransAeonic Vortex (see “Beauty”), this rite will extend the Vortex into the past, thus increasing its range and leverage. Time-travel Workings to the past are good for gathering information; changing the past through Magickal intervention is as yet problematic. Although imparting information pastward is possible, the receptivity of receiving individuals is conditioned by their particular world-views. We have a history of geniuses whose thoughts were “ahead of their time,” but these are rare; pastward contactees are likely to flee in terror or attempt to banish you as a demon. Working futureward is also good for gathering information, if your worldview permits you to understand what you encounter.

Be aware that the only time you can change events and situations is Now. The dimensions of Now are flexible in terms of human understand ing, though some see the Now as a dimensionless interface between Past and Future. Some Nows are longer than others; the Now of a normal human pregnancy is nine months long, whereas four minutes is the length of the Now of brain death or damage from oxygen-lack.

By bringing the power of all the Aeons to bear upon the Now, PanAeonic Magick enables the Magician to increase the effectiveness and timeliness of his/her action. It also enables the Magician to act more wisely that is, from a broader and higher viewpoint than Work with any single Aeon can provide. The third benefit is the Magickal Link among the PanAeonic Magician and Initiates of all the various Traditions based upon a particular Aeonic formula.

Such a Magickal Link is the basis of the worldwide neural system that manifests our Racial Consciousness; the more varied and numerous the participating individuals, the more intelligent the Racial Consciousness becomes.

Two HML Rituals – Commentaries

By Don Karr

Rituals of the HML bear much in form and tone of the rituals formulated by Crowley, which, in turn, were derived from grade workings of The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and from the Masonic-style degree rites used by the OTO before Crowley was inducted. The most telling feature of the HML rituals offered below is the Thelemite formulæ DO WHAT THOU WILT SHALL BE THE WHOLE OF THE LAW and LOVE IS THE LAW, LOVE UNDER WILL, which appear in both Nexus and Consecration-Dedication.

α. NEXUS OF HORUS/MAAT RITUAL, 131 – 12/3/95

Needed:  Feather, Crystal, Chalice, Red Candle, Wine

0. Banish:
Silence. Cast a circle with feather [a symbol of Maat] counterclockwise with black flames [another symbol of Maat] that banish chanting:
LUTIS NITRA………..

There is a simple method of “field analysis” to determine the nature of an Astral entity. Since Yesod reflects Tiphereth, the procedure is to radiate the essence of the Sun of the Hawk [≈ Horus] and the negative radiance of the Black Flame [≈ Maat]. The allies will match the radiance intonal or harmonic frequencies; alien entities will flee or be rendered immobile. The radiance may be engendered by visualizing a sunsphere bearing the Eye of Horus, and a black flame speckled with stars. Vibrate the mantram LUTIS NITRA* and your astral body will emit the envisioned radiance.

*Lutis nitra = 654, Ra(6) Hoor(5) Khuit(4); also 456 by metathesis; 456 = IPSOS. [See below, § 2.]

1. The Center:
Light the candle with pure light manifesting, chanting:  AUM………   HA!

What does “aumha” mean? The name of this domain consists of the two Sanskrit words, aum ha, the first and last letters of the (devanagari) Sanskrit alphabet — thus equivalent to the Greek “Alpha and Omega,” the beginning and end and, implicitly, the eternity that passes between. The first, aum, most often written in English as Om, is a sacred syllable representing the course of breath and the life-cycle — creation, preservation, destruction — “a symbol both of the Personal God and of the Absolute” (Swami Vivekananda). It is “at once an invocation, a benediction, an affirmation, and a promise” (G. A. Barborka). Ha is an expulsion of breath and a word for the Sun. As a pun, it is also the Hebrew word for “behold,” etc. One translation of the phrase aum ha, therefore, might be, “Alpha & Omega, The Sempiternal Sun.” As you can see, this has nothing at all to do with computers (or, possibly, has everything to do with computers). It is a mantra that, for about 25 years, has had deep personal meaning for me.

Eshelman is the author of The Mystical & Magical System of the A.˙.A.˙. : The Spiritual System of Aleister Crowley & George Cecil Jones Step-by-Step (Los Angeles: College of Thelema, 2000).]

2. The Circle:
Pass the candle from hand-to-hand clockwise casting the red-flame circle, with each pass everyone chanting:  ABRAHADABRA……..

ABRAHADABRA … represents the Great Work complete, and it is therefore an archetype of all lesser magical operations. It is in a way too perfect to be applied in advance to any of them.
—Aleister Crowley, Chapter VII, “The Formula of the Holy Graal: of ABRAHADABRA: “and of certain other Words,” in Magick / Liber ABA § Magick in Theory and Practice [= BOOK FOUR, PART THREE] (Paris: Lecram Press, 1929 [actually 1930]); on-line at http://www.sacred-texts.com/oto/aba/chap7.htm

It is unfortunate in some ways that Abrahadabra comes down to us wrapped in a fairly “pushy” Hebrew packaging, creating a false impression of either its history or its technical significance in the moment. To understand why this has occurred, we need to scrutinize the process of magickal “transmission” itself, since Crowley insists that this is the means by which he came by his own knowledge of this magickal formula. It is never really possible to separate out the transmission from the transmitee in such cases, since the language and mental habits of the latter will always impact the exact shape and content of the former. It happens that Aleister Crowley was obsessive about Hebrew Qaballah throughout his entire career and hardly any of his written works fail to emphasize it in some pronounced way or another. This obsession made its mark on the whole discussion of Abrahadabra in general, which in fact, has almost no significant relationship to Hebrew Qaballah at all, other than a handful of makeshift transliterations, proving nothing in the end. Anyone who has studied the Hebrew language at all will recognize at once that there is hardly a word of any kind in any language that cannot be traced to some austere Hebrew phrasing or another. Abrahadabra never once appears in any classical Qaballistic texts that we know of but rather comes down to us via an obscure Latin reference to its talismatic applications among the 3rd Century Gnostics, probably referencing Abraxas (also Aeon) by all appearances. Referring to it as the “Word of the Aeon” is thus an impish a play on words, since it is more properly the “Word of Aeon” in point of historical fact.

Candle back on altar. Pass the feather around, hand-to-hand, each peering at the flame through the feather, all chanting: IPSOS……….

Ipsos is the Word of the future aeon of Maat, the Egyptian Goddess of Truth or Measure. It means ‘By the same mouth’
(from the Greek ‘Ipse’ and ‘Sos’).
—Nema, note 7 to “Liber Pennae Ultim-Atum,” at http://www.horusmaat.com/LPUC.htm

And just as Crowley received his word of the Aeon (thelema) in his book, so, too, did Nema receive her word, Ipsos. Notice, however, that I said she received her word, not her word of the Aeon.
— Donald Michael Kraig, “Maat Magick, By Nema,” in New Moon Rising: A Magicakal Pagan Journal, Issue 45 (1996), at www.nmrising.com/public/756.htm (not found: Dec. 28, 2007)

3. The Uniting:
All touch the base of the chalice with their left hands, see it glowing with ultraviolet light, all chanting:  AGAPE……..

Love enters this discussion because Agape, the Greek word for “Love,” is a quintessential part of the Law of Thelema. In fact, Thelema and Agape both evaluate to 93 when computed against the Greek Gematria. That these concepts are tightly bound and intertwined is a vital concept to comprehend in the attempt to incorporate the Law of Thelema into one’s Life.
Love is not a particularly complicated subject, but it is a deeply important one to the follower of the Law of Thelema.
In essence, Love is here very nearly a synonym for the word “respect.” If you love your neighbor, then you respect your neighbor, and everything they stand for. You will, therefore, be inclined to show them respect, and thus, create no unnecessary conflict with them in Life.
I interpret the inclusion of Agape in the Law of Thelema as this: While we are each to exert our Will (Thelema) in our Life, it is to be tempered by Love (Agape). If an action we are about to take, seemingly due to our Will to accomplish the task, fails to exhibit Love — respect — for another star, then perhaps it is time to review the action to ensure it really fits our True Will. Love is the law, love under will. There should never be any conflict between the two components if we are truly on the right Path.
—Solemnus, “Introduction to Thelema” (2004) at http://solemnus.org/thelema.htm#Love

Without moving the left hands, all pick up the crystal together using their right hands, see it glowing with infra-red light, all chanting:  THELEMA…….

Thelema (“THEL-ay-mah”) is a Greek word meaning “will” or “intention.” It is also the name of a new spiritual philosophy which has arisen over the past several hundred years and is now gradually becoming established worldwide.
One of the earliest mentions of this philosophy occurs in the classic Gargantua and Pantagruel written by François Rabelais in 1532. One episode of this epic adventure tells of the founding of an “Abbey of Thelema” as an institution for the cultivation of human virtues, which Rabelais identified as being squarely opposite the prevailing Christian proprieties of the time. The sole rule of the Abbey of Thelema was: “Do what thou wilt.” This has become one of the basic tenets of Thelemic philosophy today.
Although touched upon by various prominent visionary thinkers in the following few hundred years, the seeds of Thelema sown by Rabelais eventually came to fruition in the early part of this century when developed by an Englishman named Aleister Crowley. Crowley was a poet, author, mountaineer, magician, and member of the occult society known as the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. In 1904, while traveling in Egypt with his wife Rose, Crowley became inextricably involved in a series of events which he claimed to inaugurate a new aeon of human evolution. These culminated in April when Crowley entered a state of trance and wrote down the three chapters of 220 verses which came to be called The Book of the Law (also known as Liber AL and Liber Legis). Among other things, this book declared:
“The word of the law is Thelema” and “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.”
—[Vere Chapell] “What Is Thelema?” at http://www.thelema101.com/intro.html

The simplest example of Dr Ireland’s dangerously biased interpretation of the OTO dogma is shown in his section describing the moral beliefs of Thelemic Law (ie., the law of the OTO), in which he takes The Book of the Law as an authoritative guide. Dr Ireland notes these points to be:
- “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law”, which he takes as meaning, “one must do what one must and nothing else” rather than, “do as you like, and to hell with anyone that gets in your way”.
-  some rejection of traditional, especially Christian, moral principles, like compassion.
-  OTO beliefs in regard to the coming about and authorship/authority of the text,
He distinctly left out the following, about which The Book of the Law is just as “prosaically clear” and which are just as prominent in the text:
- stamping down the wretched and the weak, eg., “stamp down the wretched & the weak: this is the law of the strong: this is our law and the joy of the world.” “…on the low men trample in the fierce lust of your pride, in the day of your wrath” “Ye are against the people, O my chosen!” “…the Slaves shall serve”
- killing and torturing, warring and avenging for the “god of War and of Vengeance”, eg., “… ye shall delight to slay”, “force and fire are of us.”
- sacrifice of animals, children, for worship with blood, eg.,”Worship me with fire and blood”, “Sacrifice cattle, little and big: after a child.”
- excess, eg., “enjoy all things of sense and rapture”,  ”Exceed!”
In his point 3.1, Thelema as a religion, Dr Ireland writes how, for Thelemites, “The good and the worthwhile to be encouraged are found in the unremitting pursuit and the celebration of the individual’s true inner self.” He clearly neglected to mention that the above-noted stamping down of the wretched, killing and torturing, avenging and bloody sacrifice are presented by the text as good and worthwhile and are seemingly part of the celebration of true self. “This is our law and a joy to the world”. Thankfully, the second part of his point reveals more of the OTO’s seditious doctrines. “The bad and harmful to be rejected by the faithful are laws, creeds, and conventions that stand in the way of the individual’s attainment of the free, true self”.
The commentary on The Book of the Law, prominently referred to by both the OTO’s Chief Executive Steven King and by Dr Ireland, clearly contradicts the contention by Mr King that its graphic war imagery is metaphorical. Nevertheless, Dr Ireland’s “expert report” evidently accepts Mr King’s facile sophistry. This is even when Mr King also says in his Tribunal Witness Statement that, “The precise interpretation of ‘acceptance’ and what the book itself says is left to the individual to determine, with reference to Crowley’s exegesis and teachings as was prescribed in the primary ‘Comment’ to the Book of the Law, another ‘received’ spiritual Thelemic text.”
—Vivienne Legg and Dyson Devine, “‘Expert’ Tribunal Report Agrees with O.T.O. Propaganda and Fails to List Key Belief-Components of Violence and Oppression,” at GAIAGUYS:
http://www.gaiaguys.net/OTO.Ireland.16.10.06.htm  (removed)
“On 27 July 2007 Legg and Devine were found guilty of religious vilification and ordered to remove the offensive materials from their website. They failed to do this and contempt proceedings were initiated. To ensure their appearance before the Tribunal four police officers from Victoria travelled more than 1500 kilometres to New South Wales where Legg and Devine live, and brought them to Melbourne. Released on bail overnight with orders to appear the next day, they failed to take the opportunity provided by VCAT to comply with the Tribunal’s orders and on the morning of Wednesday 28 November 2007 Judge Harbison found that their contempt was deliberate. She sentenced Legg and Devine to nine months imprisonment with no minimum period.” —http://www.wildhunt.org/2007/12/update-thelemites-fight-pedophillia.html

The six syllables purify the six realms of existence in suffering.
For example, the syllable Om purifies the neurotic attachment to bliss and pride, which afflict the beings in the realm of the gods.

PURIFIES    SAMSARIC REALM
Om    bliss / pride    gods
Ma    jealousy /
lust for entertainment    jealous gods
Ni    passion / desire    human
Pe    stupidity / prejudice    animal
Me    poverty /
possessiveness    hungry ghost
Hung    aggression / hatred    hell

While the power of Horus is one of expansion and brilliance, that of Maat is of insight and mystery. As Yang & Yin, Androgyne & Gynander, these Twins transform the two-sided Tree of Life & Death for the Next Step in evolution, leading eventually towards N’Aton, the collective global mind of awakened humanity. In practice we have found that the magicks of Horus are often catalyzed and accelerated by those of Maat, forming a synergy of illumination and mutation. The Word of Horus is ABRAHADABRA, and that of Maat is IPSOS.
—“Horus/Maat Lodge F. A. Q,” § WHO IS N’ATON?

With the awakening of the groupmind of N’aton, the wargod aspect of Horus is transmogrified, from hawk into lion form.

4.     The Becoming/Thanking:
All place fingers to lips in the sign of silence. In silence, each sips the sacred wine until all are finished. The light is felt within. The last bit is poured onto the ground, all chanting:  GAIA!

Hesiod says that “in the beginning there was chaos, vast and dark space; then appeared Gaia, the deep breasted earth…”
According to Hesiod, Gaia is the only divinity with well defined features: from her all things issued.
—”Gaia in Ancient Greek History” at http://www.ozi.com/ourplanet/greeks.html [OZICOM Web Services]

Gaia theory today is a spectrum of hypotheses, ranging from the undeniable to the radical.
At one end is the undeniable statement that the organisms on the Earth have radically altered its composition. A stronger position is that the Earth’s biosphere effectively acts as if it is a self-organizing system which works in such a way as to keep its systems in some kind of equilibrium that is conducive to life. The history of evolution, ecology and climate show that the exact characteristics of this equilibrium intermittently have undergone rapid changes, however, which are believed to have caused extinctions and felled civilisations (see climate change).
Biologists and earth scientists usually view the factors that stabilize the characteristics of a period as an undirected emergent property of the system; as each individual species pursues its own self-interest, for example, their combined actions tend to have counterbalancing
effects on environmental change.
Opponents of this view sometimes point to examples of life’s actions that have resulted in dramatic change rather than stable equilibrium, such as the conversion of the Earth’s atmosphere from a reducing environment to an oxygen-rich one. However, proponents will point out that those atmospheric composition changes created an environment much more suitable to life.
Some go a step further and hypothesize that all lifeforms are part of a single planetary being called Gaia. In this view, the atmosphere, the seas and the terrestrial crust would be results of interventions carried out by Gaia through the coevolving diversity of living organisms. While the Earth as a unit does not match the generally accepted biological criteria for life itself (Gaia does not reproduce, for instance), many scientists would be comfortable characterising the earth as a single “system”.
—Ellie Crystal. “Gaia Hypothesis” at http://www.crystalinks.com/gaia.html [CRYSTALINKS]

Then arms raised up, chanting:  TO ME TO ME!
The crystal is placed in the chalice with the feather placed on top.

5. The Going:
DO WHAT THOU WILT SHALL BE THE WHOLE OF THE LAW.
LOVE IS THE LAW, LOVE UNDER WILL!
Blow out the candle and go.

Thelema—which is Greek for Will—is paired with Agape, the Greek word for Love. Love, from a mystical point of view, is the drive to achieve Union, thereby losing the sense of ego-individuality and isolation. This theme is repeated again and again within Thelema, and is considered to be the key to accomplishing the Great Work. This is reflected in the core expression of Thelema from The Book of the Law [= AL]:
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. (AL I:40)
Love is the law, love under will. (AL I:57)
This notion of divine Love is personified in the Thelemic deities Nuit and Hadit, who represent (respectively) the Union of the infinitely-expanded Goddess of the Night Sky and the infinitely-condensed masculine Point, the hidden Flame in the being of all that lives. Their Union results in the birth of Ra-Hoor-Khuit (or Horus), the Hawk-Headed sun god, called the Crowned and Conquering Child.

β. CONSECRATION-DEDICATION RITE: 93/MAAT by Nema
(reprinted with permission from the author)

[While the title of this ritual suggests that it is directed toward Maat, as with Aion’s Nexus, it is fully within the Double Current, as the god-forms invoked indicate. The Consecration-Dedication Rite was composed by Nema and included in “Kingdom,” in The Cincinnati Journal of Ceremonial Magick, Volume 1 – Issue V (1983), pages 28-31; it also appears in Silverstar: A Journal of New Magick, Issue 5 (Spring Equinox 2006), page 22, athttp://horusmaat.com/silverstar/SILVERSTAR5-PG22.htm.]

It is suggested the celebrant bathe and rinse the body with the traditional hyssop-water as a pre-ceremonial ablution/preparation.
Central is a vessel of oil (pure olive oil or one’s personal scent); small quantities, in appropriate containers, of salt, rice, and milk; one’s “badge of office” – robe, crown, or ring; a vessel of wine.

Enter naked.

Approach the Circle from the South, in the Sign of the Enterer. Walk the Circle deosil, and at the East, assume the gesture of Heru-Pa-Kraat. Banish, according to the rite given previously. Face the center of the Circle and proclaim:
“Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
“By the same mouth that declares the Law, shall the Will be spoken and the Work be vowed.
“THELEMA!  AGAPE!  ABRAHADABRA!  IPSOS!”
Extend the arms upward, palms to the sky.
“To NUIT!
“By HADIT!
“In the Name of RA-HOOR-KHUIT!”

Proceed to the South, stand before Wand and candle flame, facing outward. Take up the Wand in the right hand, pass it through the flame, hold it aloft, saying:
“This Wand is the weapon of my Will. It is the phallus of my spirit, the sceptre of my Kingdom.”
Turn to the center of the Circle, pour a few drops of oil upon the Wand, and return to the South, facing outward. Rub the oil into the Wand: as you do so, chant then Name SHAITAN-AIWASS—loudly at first, then diminishing to a whisper. Breathe the whispered Name into the Wand as you anoint it. Then:
“In the Name SHAITAN-AIWASS, I will work for the manifestation of the Law of Thelema. I will work for the establishment of Truth, Balance and Justice in the Kingdom. I will work for the evolution of the Universe.”

Keep silence for a space, then, with Wand in hand, proceed to the West. Place the Wand before the Chalice. Take up the Chalice, rinse it with the water, hold it aloft, saying:
“This Chalice is the weapon of my Love. It is the yoni of my spirit, the Graal of my Kingdom.” Proceed with the anointing as with the Wand, this time using the Name BABALON-MAAT.
Then:
“In the Name BABALON-MAAT, I love thee, NUIT, all that is, and is not! I love thee, Lord PAN, god of living beauty! I love thee, Man, sleeper in the night of pain and madness.”

Keep silence for a space, then, with Wand and Chalice, proceed to the North. Place the weapons before the Pantacle. Take up the Pantacle, rest it upon the earth, then hold it aloft, saying:
“This Pantacle is the weapon of my Bodies. It is the Word of my spirit, the seal of my Kingdom.”
Proceed with the anointing as above, using the Name NUIT-HADIT. Then:
“In the Name NUIT-HADIT, I am King and Mage. I am Priest, Hermit, Warrior, and Fool. I am the Dancer of the Mask; the Mask conceals nothing.”

Keep silence for a space. Then, with the three weapons, proceed to the East. Place them before the Sword. Take up the Sword, touch it to the feather, hold it aloft, saying:
“This Sword is the weapon of my Mind. It is the sentinel of my spirit, the warrior of my Kingdom.” Proceed with the anointing as above, using the Name HERU-RA-HA. Then:
“In the Name HERU-RA-HA, I know that we dream as we dance. I know the Law that governs the play of the dream. I know that I am as much illusion as the rest of the Dream.”

Leaving the weapons assembled in the East, return to the center. Anoint the Chakras with the oil, saying:
(At base of spine) “I dedicate and consecrate my body of flesh to the Great Work. I will keep it in strength and health to this end.”
(Genitals) “I dedicate and consecrate my astral body and sexual power to the Great Work. I will make love only under Will, and always to NUIT.”
(Navel) “I dedicate and consecrate my etheric body and my Chi to the Great Work. I will fight as warrior and brother, and will strike low and hard.”
(Heart) “I dedicate and consecrate my complete identity, Inner and Outer, to the Great Work. All that I am, yea, to the last drop of blood, I pour into the Chalice of our Lady BABALON.”
(Throat) “I dedicate and consecrate my speech and my silence to the Great Work. I will speak only Truth, and keep silence forever within.”
(Third Eye ) “I dedicate and consecrate my vision to the Great Work. I will behold all things with clarity, making no difference between any one thing and any other thing, soever.”
(Back of skull) “I dedicate and consecrate my Observer, the True Self, to the Great Work. I will accept my non-existence, and again become Tao.”
(Top of skull) Silence.

Put on the ring/crown/robe. Take up the vessels of salt, rice and milk. Beginning at the south, cast a few grains/drops beyond the circle at each compass-point, saying.

Take the wine to the East. Pour wine into the Chalice. Take up the Wand, and proceed with VIII°, making sure the Elixir flows onto the Wand.
Transfer the Elixir to the wine: using the Wand, stir to commingle. Dip the Sword-point into the Chalice, so the fluid runs down the blade. Spill a few drops upon the Pantacle.
Turn to the center of the Circle, holding the Chalice in the left hand, the Wand in the right, and declare:
“I will pursue the Great Work to its completion. I will continue from life to life, from world to world; yea, until the end of Time, until the evolution of the Universe be complete. This is my Work, my Word, my Will, my Love.”
“ABRAHADABRA”
“IPSOS.”

Drink from the Chalice, to the final drop. Place the weapons upon the Altar.
“So mote it be.
“Love is the law, love under will.”

The closing banishment is done by making the Mark of the Beast at each station deosil, as follows:
South:       In the Name SHAITAN
S. W.:          In the Name AIWASS
West:          In the Name BABALON
N. W.:        In the Name MAAT
North:        In the Name NUIT
N. E.:         In the Name HADIT
East:           In the Name RA-HOOR-KHUIT
S. E.:           In the Name HERU-PA-KRAAT.

NOTES

on the names in the Consecration-Dedication Rite from the glossary in Kenneth Grant’s Aleister Crowley & the Hidden God
(New York: Samuel Weiser, 1974):

  • Aiwass : “A praeter-human intelligence with whom Crowley was in contact at various times throughout his life. In 1904, Aiwass communicated The Book of the Law (AL) which forms the basis of Crowley’s Cult of ‘Do What Thou Wilt’” (—Aleister Crowley & the Hidden God, page 202).
  • Babalon : “The curious orthography stems from The Book of the Law, for Babalon is the formula of Babylon, the Scarlet Woman of the Apocalypse before the Great Whore had become the scapegoat of the later Osiran paternalistic cults” (—Aleister Crowley & the Hidden God, page 205).
  • Hadit : “…represents the infinitely small yet supremely potent point…which, in union with Nuit, generates the manifest universe (Ra-Hoor-Khuit)” (—Aleister Crowley & the Hidden God, page 209).
  • Heru-pa-Kraat, or Hoor-paar-Kraat : Horus the Child. Solar God, whose minister is Aiwass.
  • Maat : “The Egyptian goddess of Truth and Justice” (—Aleister Crowley & the Hidden God, page 213).
  • Nuit : represents the infinitely vast space, counter-part to the infinitely small point of Hadit. She is “Goddess of the night-sky, frequently depicted by the ancient Egyptians in the form of a woman arched over the earth, her body sewn with stars” (—Aleister Crowley & the Hidden God, page 217).
  • Ra-Hoor-Khuit : twin, or father, of Hoor-paar-Kraat. “Ra-Hoor-Khuit stands for the projection of energy which begets the ‘child’ [Hoor-paar-Kraat], the dwarf- or bud-will in the womb of Nuit, the child that bears the imprint of that will and emerges as Horus…” (—Aleister Crowley & the Hidden God, page 223).
  • Shaitan : “The biblical version of this god as Satan is a degradation of the meaning if the Power which it originally represented and which Crowley made the central formula of his Cult” (—Aleister Crowley & the Hidden God, page 226).

Regarding VIII°, Grant writes (Nightside of Eden [London: Frederick Muller Limited, 1977], page 204), “Broadly speaking, the VIII° is of a masturbatory nature…,” though versions of this degree exist involving two operators (as in “VIII° of Priestess by Priest” via tongue or via hand and “VIII° of Priest by Priestess” via mouth or via hand). Grant continues, “…the IX° involves coitus proper, and the XI° comports of the lunar current.”

Liber Resh Vel Helios ~ Liber CCPublication in class D

  1. These are the adorations to be performed by aspirants to the A∴ A∴
  2. Let him greet the Sun at dawn, facing East, giving the sign of his grade. And let him say in a loud voice:
Hail unto Thee who art Ra in Thy rising, even unto Thee who art Ra in Thy strength, who travellest over the Heavens in Thy bark at the Uprising of the Sun.
Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm.
Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Night!
  3. Also at Noon, let him greet the Sun, facing South, giving the sign of his grade. And let him say in a loud voice:
Hail unto Thee who art Ahathoor in Thy triumphing, even unto Thee who art Ahathoor in Thy beauty, who travellest over the heavens in thy bark at the Mid-course of the Sun.
Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm.
Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Morning!
  4. Also, at Sunset, let him greet the Sun, facing West, giving the sign of his grade. And let him say in a loud voice:
Hail unto Thee who art Tum in Thy setting, even unto Thee who art Tum in Thy joy, who travellest over the Heavens in Thy bark at the Down-going of the Sun.
Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm.
Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Day!
  5. Lastly, at Midnight, let him greet the Sun, facing North, giving the sign of his grade, and let him say in a loud voice:
Hail unto thee who art Khephra in Thy hiding, even unto Thee who art Khephra in Thy silence, who travellest over the heavens in Thy bark at the Midnight Hour of the Sun.
Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm.
Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Evening.
  6. And after each of these invocations thou shalt give the sign of silence, and afterward thou shalt perform the adoration that is taught thee by thy Superior. And then do thou compose Thyself to holy meditation.
  7. Also it is better if in these adorations thou assume the God-form of Whom thou adorest, as if thou didst unite with Him in the adoration of That which is beyond Him.
  8. Thus shalt thou ever be mindful of the Great Work which thou hast undertaken to perform, and thus shalt thou be strengthened to pursue it unto the attainment of the Stone of the Wise, the Summum Bonum, True Wisdom and Perfect Happiness.

PRIMORDIAL BES/KALI AHA MANTRASANA

This is a combined mantra (incantation) and asana (ritual posture) for invoking or resonating with the energies of Bes  Kali (and/or other such primordial deities -eg. Pan, Shiva, Atum); it stretches and strengthens the tongue for Kechari, a tantric yogic exercise for energy circulation which is included in this posture.

Bes is the Ancient Egyptian dwarf-God of music, dance and childbirth, who is often used to represent the pre-civilization Shamanic or Primordial Aeon. Kali is the Hindu primal Mother Goddess from which all things sprang. Both are usually depicted in ancient artworks with their tongues out.

Stand with left foot facing outwards to the left and right foot facing out right, bend the knees into right angles; echo this with the arms, also facing outwards to each side in L shapes.

This is the traditional Thelemic/Maatian posture for Bes and is used in Nema’s 6-fold banishment (into-which the following can be incorporated). Now add the mantra and accompanying mouth mudra:

After a few preparatory deep breaths, Pull the tongue as far back in the throat as possible while inhaling deeply. Accompany this with an ‘Aaaaahhh’ sound, more breathed than spoken. Pause.

When this can be taken no further, expel the breath with a forceful ‘Haaa!’ sound while sticking out the tongue. Towards the end of this exhalation the tongue is to be pushed out as far as possible, stretching the muscles to their full extent (if it hurts a bit you’re doing it properly!).
Repeat this process three times.

The fragnum lignum web at the bottom of the tongue will rub against the bottom front teeth. If this exercise is done regularly (I suggest at least once daily) this ligament will gradually wear away, allowing greater flexibility of the tongue. Thus Kechari, the traditional Yogic technique of deep breathing with the tongue at the back of the throat, can be performed more effectively, as the tongue can fold far enough back into the throat to stimulate the pituitary gland there.  This is a ‘self-mating’ exercise which produces Amrita nectar in the throat and creates the ‘Microcosmic Orbit’ (Taoist term) to circulate Prana/energy throughout the body.

The tongue mudra-mantra can be also be performed without the full body asana.

The mantra ‘AHA’ is the Word of the primal aeon or Dreamtime, and the double-wanded (hermaphroditic) form of the Pan-ic mantra ‘Ha!’ and thus puts one in touch with primal sexual/creative essence.

Ah and Ha are also the sounds of the first and last letters of the Sanskrit alphabet, so the breath as the beginning and the end, the Alpha and Omega.
Additionally, as revealed in a commentary on the 29th Book of the Tantraloka:    Ah is the sound of Shiva and Ha that of Shakti, so the ultimate union of energy and consciousness is expressed. This is the rise of the Kundalini Shakti to the Crown (Shiva) within the individual (represented by Ardhanasrishvara the Hindu hermaphrodite God/dess), which can indeed be facilitated by advanced Khechari.

This AHA mantrasana is explored in greater depth in Orryelle’s book, ‘A Brief HirStory of TimemiT fo yrotSriH feirB A’ <yrotsreh.htm> , including its uses within ritual contexts.

Pan-Aeon Asana

– AION.  Fall Equinox 1990

In a place that is quiet, after suitable meditation, perform the Asana.

(Nameless Aeon)

In BLACK silence
Squat in foetal position, head down
Black-empty-silent-before-birth
Inhaling Power
The Wordless-word-howl erupts
Raise you head and animal-growl:

AHhhhhhhhhhhh

Be-come the Animal Being

(Mother Aeon)

From a crouch, flow into the ground
Inhaling Power
On your back, lying flat
Part of the GREEN nurturing
Moan the primal cry:

MAaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Be-come the Mother Power

(Father Aeon)

Roll to a sitting position
Inhaling Power
Sitting in the RED aura-fire of Command
Centering the Will
Vibrate into the gut:

AhhhhhhMmmmmmmNnnnnnn

Be-come the Father Power

(Son Aeon)

In one motion spring to your feet
Inhaling Power
Projecting the GOLD light
Solar rebirth and renewal
Hands at you sides, take the one step forward
Propelling forth:

AaaaaaHaaaaaA

Be-come the Son Power

(Daughter Aeon)

From the one step, flow
Into THE dance
Inhaling Power
Spinning the ULTRAVIOLET balance
Generating the sibilant beyond-sound buzzz:

Szszszszszszszszszs

Be-come the Daughter Power

(Silent Aeon)

Dance dies down
The Power Cycle returns to Source
In a different manner
Inhaling Power
Collapse into a Black Hole
Back to the First posture, Foetal squat
But in the CLEAR Tao pool
Finger to lips; BE:

…………………..

***

So the centering of the Aeonic Powers in the Body is complete.>Any other visualizations that come to mind should be added.

Commentary:

After a few times, the asana should come easily and be done in one continual motion, a deep inhalation and exhalation for each posture and each Power. The idea is to coordinate “total physical response” of breath, body motion and gesture with sound vibration and mental visualization. It’s tricky, but falls into place after a few times. The timing of each interlocking thing is what makes it work. I tried to let this rite emerge over a long time of meditation and practice with virtually no “traditional” Magikal words of power or gestures involved; an attempt at something “new”, though those with background in such things will see some not-so-new “connections”. I will say, however, that these emerged, unconsciously, from fairly deep strata. Try it and see if it works for you.

All comments welcome!  Love=Will;

Rite of the Verses from the Stele of Revealing

by Shade

This is a multi-purpose eucharistic ritual of invocation based on the verse translation of the hieroglyphics upon the Stele of Revealing, which was subsequently included in the text of the Book of the Law.  The meanings of the symbolism employed should be studied in Frater Perdurabo’s various commentaries and accounts thereof. It is devised to charge the Self with the evolutionary energies of the 93 current, and to contact whatever may be the focus of one’s personal Great Work. The charging and absorption of the liquid sacrament is a perfect model of the tail-devouring oroboros serpent of eternity, the holy union of microcosm and macrocosm for the purpose of magickal metamorphosis.

The central altar is equipped with the blade, cup, wand, disk, lamp & the stele of revealing. The mage will first banish with the blade, perhaps with the Star Ruby, or preferably the Spacemarks ritual devised by Nema. Then perform the thelemic cross:

Touch the third eye and say ABRAHADABRA!; the genitalia and say IPSOS!; the right shoulder and sayTHELEMA!; the left shoulder and say AGAPE!; cross the arms over the chest and say LASHTAL!. Project toward the altar with the sign of the enterer, flowing into the sign of the parting of the veil, proclaiming:

DO WHAT THOU WILT SHALL BE THE WHOLE OF THE LAW!

Take up the wand and cast a single or triple circle deosil, chanting:

ABOVE, THE GEMMED AZURE IS
THE NAKED SPLENDOUR OF NUIT;
SHE BENDS IN ECSTASY TO KISS
THE SECRET ARDOURS OF HADIT.
THE WINGED GLOBE, THE STARRY BLUE
ARE MINE, O ANKH-AF-NA-KHONSU.

As you finish both verse and circle, bring the wand down to touch the disk.

Then, project energy into the filled cup with the wand, consecrating:

I AM THE LORD OF THEBES, AND I
THE INSPIRED FORTH-SPEAKER OF MENTU!
FOR ME UNVEILS THE VEILED SKY,
THE SELF-SLAIN ANKH-AF-NA-KHONSU
WHOSE WORDS ARE TRUTH.   I INVOKE, I GREET
THY PRESENCE, O RA-HOOR-KHUIT!

Hold the wand between both hands, horizontally before you, invoking:

UNITY UTTERMOST SHOWED!
I ADORE THE MIGHT OF THY BREATH,
SUPREME AND TERRIBLE GOD,
WHO MAKEST THE GODS AND DEATH
TO TREMBLE BEFORE THEE:-
I, I ADORE THEE!

Here may be performed one’s formal invocation or calling of whatsoever power the mage seeks, whether that of the Holy Guardian Spirit or the inspiration of a chosen Deity. Crowley’s ‘Aiwass’ chant from the Book of ThothLiber Samekh sub figura DCCC, or perhaps his verse

translation of the reverse of the stele, may also be used. Then,

Place the wand upon the altar, elevating the chalice high with both hands:

APPEAR ON THE THRONE OF RA!
OPEN THE WAYS OF THE KHU!
LIGHTEN THE WAYS OF THE KA!
THE WAYS OF THE KHABS RUN THROUGH
TO STIR ME OR STILL ME!
AUM! LET IT FILL ME!

Drink the sacrament, offering the last drops to the Earth and Sky.  Wand in right hand, cup in left, arms crossed; absorb the force, saying:

THE LIGHT IS MINE; ITS RAYS CONSUME
ME: I HAVE MADE A SECRET DOOR
INTO THE HOUSE OF RA AND TUM,
OF KHEPHRA, AND OF AHATHOOR.
I AM THY THEBAN, O MENTU,
THE PROPHET ANKH-AF-NA-KHONSU!

Salute the sun at all four quarters, with Liber Resh vel Helios sub figura CC, or simply recite the verse appropriate to the current time.

Absorb the circle with the wand going widdershins, intoning:

BY BES-NA-MAUT MY BREAST I BEAT;
BY WISE TA-NECH I WEAVE MY SPELL.
SHOW THY STAR-SPLENDOUR, O NUIT!
BID ME WITHIN THINE HOUSE TO DWELL,
O WINGED SNAKE OF LIGHT, HADIT!
ABIDE WITH ME, RA-HOOR-KHUIT!

Finish by again bringing the wand to earth upon the pantacle.

Once more, banish with the blade, using the spacemarks or some ritual devised by your own genius.   Repeat the thelemic cross, then make the sign of closing the veil, ending with the sign of silence, and proclaim:

LOVE IS THE LAW, LOVE UNDER WILL!

Go forth and take your pleasure on the earth among the living.

Invoke often!

The Rite of the Double Cups

Untitled by Morgainne Purdy

by Shade Oroboros 718

“The nature of true Alchemy is that it changes not alone the substance of the Work, but also changes thence the Alchemist.”
- Liber Pennae Praenumbra

Paul Huson’s excellent The Devil’s Picture-Book, a pagan study of the Tarot, speaks of a Gnostic cult that “…celebrated the Eucharist using two chalices instead of one. By pouring the contents of one into the other, he mixed water with wine, the water being equated in his scheme with Sophia, ‘divine wisdom’, which had fallen to earth and been whirled about in the dark empty spaces, and the wine with the fiery spirit of the Savior Christ. This was compared to the descent of a bridegroom to a bride, who would in his embrace save her from the prison of matter and reascend with her once more to the heavenly spaces.”

This resonated for me with the Thelemic concept of the Double-Wanded One, and the image of the XIVth tarot trump known variously as Art, Temperance (in the sense of tempering a sword in the heat of fire and cooling by water), Alchemy, or the Angel of Time. It also seemed appropriate for solo or dyadic workings. This is an extensive revision of what I wrote in 1978.

The twin cups can be identical or not; if two mages are working together each should contribute their own. In sexual workings this can be used to mingle secretions. In magical workings sigils can be burned and their ashes also mingled. Adapt freely!

*

(part the Veil and say)

‘Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law!’

(light the candle and say)

‘Burn upon their brows, o splendrous serpent!’

(light the incense and say)

‘O azure-lidded woman, bend upon them!’

(take up the cups of water and wine, and say)

In the beginning there was the dark Void of Nuit,
and no difference.
In the beginning there was the brilliant Light of Hadit.
and all things were seen.
Division was made for the sake of union,
thus silver and gold were parted.
In the ending, the Two are Naught.

‘The Perfect and the Perfect are one Perfect and not two; nay, are none!’

(raise the cup of water and say)

The infinite ocean of Nuit is silent,
The stars burn Time away.
Dissolved in chill waters the seed is concealed,
The Child in the Lotus, Hoor-par-kraat.
AGAPE!   NIHIL!

(raise the cup of wine and say)

In phoenix fire the Sun is risen,
Hadit revealed in breath of life.
All hearts are touched by spreading wings
Of the Warrior Hawk-Lord, Ra-Hoor-Khuit.
THELEMA!   AITHYR!

(holding the cups level, say)

Lion-blood and Eagle-tears merge in the Sothis-gift,
Opposites whirl patterned dance across the in-betweeness.
As moving horizons of East and West the Twins are manifested,
At the height and depth of South and North Maat weaves balance.
Many becomes Two, Two One, One Naught.
LASHTAL!   MAKHASHANAH!

(pour the sacraments back and forth from cup to cup, repeatedly mingling them and saying)

Light melts in Darkness,
Night gives birth to Day.
The Hidden God speaks the Word of Silence,
The Sacred Fire is seen in the Eye.
The Secret Serpent of a million forms
Coils ceaselessly through Eternity.

ABRAHADABRA!   IPSOS!
ABRAHADABRA!   IPSOS!
ABRAHADABRA!   IPSOS!

(embrace if there is more than one celebrant, drink all of the sacrament, pour out the last drops as an offering, and say)

‘For he is ever a sun, and she a moon. But to him is the winged secret flame, and to her the stooping starlight.’

Now are two made naught and the Twins reborn.
Now the past is ended and the Aeon begun.
A new thing is birthed in the cup of Babalon
And the alchemy of Therion is complete
In the Double Word of Heru-Ra-Ha.
OLUN!   KAOS!   ABRAXAS!

(close the Veil and say)

Love is the law, love under will.

(make the Sign of Silence)

The Ritual of the Temple of N’Aton

N’Aton Two Fires by Nema

by Andre Consciencia

Temple:

At the centre: Nun and Yod

East: chalice of air, aleph, the fool

Southeast: Samekh

South: Pentacle of Fire and Tav, The Universe

Southwest: Ayin

West: Wand of Water, Ayin, the devil

Northwest: Samekh

North: Dagger of the Earth, Nun, death

Practice

1. A banishment performed clockwise vibrating N’Aton and spreading the Double-Flame.

1. N’Aton

1. The magickian, standing at the centre, will then, after meditation and purification by any other means chosen, move to East vibrating Nia (Nun-Yod-Aleph)

2. At East, he will raise the cup filled of air and vibrate: “By the
Fool”, tracing aleph with it:

א

3. Moving towards south, he will envision a sun made of air standing
in his cup. There he will imagine gathering fire enough to materialize a
pentacle. And he will materialize it inside his physical pentacle, taking it
into the cup at south. “the Universe is created”; and he will trace a Tav
with his weapon:

ת

4. Moving towards west, he will see the light at the chalice take the
shape of a bleeding eye, filling it. Reaching down at his destination, let
the magickian imagine he accumulates water with power enough to materialize
a wand, and let it be his physical wand then, with which he will mix the
elixir of the chalice “and redeemed by the devil”, tracing once more with
the chalice of air, Ayin:

ע

5. The Magickian will then, at northwest, visualize the elixir still
spinning and turning into Sirius. At North he will take his dagger, dive it
in the chalice and then stab it in the ground “with death”. He will be
tracing a Nun:

נ

6. Moving towards east once more, let him stop at northeast and
formulate the chalice as a mouth, and joining mouths, let him drink of the
elixir.

7. At east, allow the magickian to return to the centre vibrating
“AIN”, and carrying his cup.

2. Meditation

1. At the centre, let the magickian sit and meditate, visualizing a
serpent wrapped around a black stone at the base of his spine; let the
serpent feel his spine, and the energetic spots. Feel your cackra vortexes,
enticing the serpent to penetrate through them, and let the serpent climb
all the way up to the crown cackra, focusing on the survival urges
attributed to each cakra. *5

2. The Magickian will then invoke his Holy Guardian Angel through the
cup (functioning as the mirror), and let him become as unto his HGA, and
being IT, let IT anchor upon his personality.

3. This being done, allow the Magickian to expand his perception to all his possible selfs, all the selfs from his might have beens, all his past selfs, all his present selfs, his parallel selfs and all his future selfs, all of his bodies selfs, all his selfs, all the concrete and all the abstract selfs, finding by nature his sole centre: and thus will he evoke the nature of N’Aton, and he shall carry on until the consciousness of N’Aton is attained.

4. The mutated Magickian will now repeat step 8 yet let N’Aton replace the serpent, or take the shape of a Serpent of his likeness; and let the magickians spine be as the column of the cosmos, where N’Aton will be meeting the Forgotten Ones themselves as cosmic forces, transcending them to find TAT.

5. And having done this to the end, let him lie in ecstasy and expand even unto all the selfs from all the selfs of everyone and everything.

6. He shall have the “Serpent” or whatever is there, descending to the
Base Cackra, grounding the Double Counsciousness.

3. IPSOS

1. From the centre to East: “Nia”

2. At northeast let him utter “By the same mouth”, when he will join his mouth to the chalice of air, as if the chalice is a mouth, and he will blow and pour the elixir into it, tracing a Peh:

פ

3. He will place the dagger stained with dirt in the chalice, as if distilling venom, leaving the elixir to rot. At northwest, from the elixirs decomposition forms the light of Sirius “the inner sun came into being”, and the magickian will trace a Samekh:

ס

4. He will mix the elixir with the wand of water, and at Southwest it will turn into a bloody eye, “that the devil divided in loving dance”, tracing the Ayin:

ע

5. And standing at south, as if creating the Pentacle of Fire, the Magickian will take it out of the chalice and put it on the ground.

Tree of MaatThe Masks Of Maat

Vision: Aion / Voice: Shade

Introduction:

On the 2nd of July, 1980, fraters Aion and Shade spent the day at the Brooklyn Museum and the adjacent Botanical Gardens, viewing ancient artifacts and exotic plant life. Returning to Shade’s home, they prepared for a ritual designed to earth the 11 titles of Maat upon the sephiroth as delineated by Soror Nema (see the Tree of Maat at the end of this site). After banishing by spacemarks, Shade invoked Thoth with his own words, and Aion called upon the Kia and the Zos with verses by A. O. Spare & Rehctaw invocation. They then read Liber Israfel sub figura LXIV in unison, and charged the temple by reading alternate chapters of Liber DCCCXIII vel ARARITA sub figura DLXX. Various sacraments were consumed, then each sphere’s appropriate name was intoned as a mantra. Each then channelled a response in art, one in image and one in words. This continued through most of the night, until complete. Crowley’s expression of Maat from The Vision & the Voice was read in unison. The spacemarks were repeated, and the temple was closed. This Work is the results of that working. It is interesting to note that no overt communication occured during the working other than the rite, thus the number of syncronicities between the sigils and the words was taken as some sort of proof. This working took place in the context of an extremely active period for the Horus/Maat Lodge, and was performed one week after the Warrior Lord Working at Nema’s Maat Pangrove Abbey in Ohio, held at the summer solstice. This was a major gathering of magicians from around the country, notable for some of the earliest initiations done by the Lodge, and for a letter from Kenneth Grant which began the wider communication with the entity known as Lam, originally contacted by Aleister Crowley.

Orion – Horus stellar rite

We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain, moor and mountain
Following yonder star

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy Perfect Light….

-Carol We three Kings of Orient by Rev. John Henry Hopkins (1857).

Introduction
Orion was a mighty hunter who has many myths attributed to him; Orion was son of the Sea God Neptune. He was a giant who was able to walk in the sea, with his head above the water. In the night sky Greeks saw him holding a club in one hand and holding a lion skin or shield in the other, he was fighting the bull constellation; Taurus and chasing constellation Pleiades. The constellation Scorpio is positioned so that it opposes him. Sagittarius was placed next to the Scorpion; with his bow aimed at the scorpion’s heart, should he try to move towards Orion. The Orion Scorpio story echoes astronomical phenomenon that Orion and the constellation Scorpio each rise as the other sets. Orion is the brightest constellation, so bright that it was said: night, mistaking him for day, folds her dark wings. Orion is the winter constellation par excellence.
Orion evolved in the view of the Romans to be armed with a sword, a baldric, wore the military belt and seen as a prime example of a warrior. He portended war by making his sword flare brightly in the sky. Those born when Orion was visible or rising were said to have the characteristics of officers and soldiers. The influence of Orion on the Roman army is discussed in ‘Mithras-Orion: Greek Hero and Roman Army God’ by Michael P. Speidel.
The Greek/Roman legend of Orion is:
‘Orion loved Merope, the daughter of OEnopion, king of Chios, and sought her in marriage. He cleared the island of wild beasts, and brought the spoils of the chase as presents to his beloved; but as OEnopion constantly deferred his consent, Orion attempted to gain possession of the maiden by violence. Her father, incensed at this conduct, having made Orion drunk, deprived him of his sight and cast him out on the seashore. The blinded hero followed the sound, of a Cyclops’ hammer till he reached Lemnos, and came to the forge of Vulcan, who, taking pity on him, gave him Kedalion, one of his men, to be his guide to the abode of the sun. Placing Kedalion on his shoulders, Orion proceeded to the east, and there meeting the sun-god, was restored to sight by his beam.
After this he dwelt as a hunter with Diana, with whom he was a favorite, and it is even said she was about to marry him. Her brother was highly displeased and often chided her, but to no purpose. One day, observing Orion wading through the sea with his head just above the water, Apollo pointed it out to his sister and maintained that she could not hit that black thing on the sea. The archer-goddess discharged a shaft with fatal aim. The waves rolled the dead body of Orion to the land, and bewailing her fatal error with many tears, Diana placed him among the stars, where he appears as a giant, with a girdle, sword, lion’s skin, and club. Sirius, his dog, follows him, and the Pleiades fly before him.
The Pleiades were daughters of Atlas, and nymphs of Diana’s train. One day Orion saw them and became enamored and pursued them. In their distress they prayed to the gods to change their form, and Jupiter in pity turned them into pigeons, and then made them a constellation in the sky. Though their number was seven, only six stars are visible, for Electra, one of them, it is said left her place that she might not behold the ruin of Troy, for that city was founded by her son Dardanus. The sight had such an effect on her sisters that they have looked pale ever since1’.
In another version of the story is when Orion threatens to kill all beasts on the earth Gaea -Earth became angry and created a giant scorpion that killed Orion by its sting. Zeus on request on Artemis and Leto placed Orion in sky and to mark his bravery placed Scorpio in the sky also.
The origin of name the Orion relates to one his birth stories, which Hyrieus of Thebes asks for gift of fatherhood of his guests Mercury and Jupiter. He offered them an Ox for their feast and Mercury and Jupiter accepted the offering and instructed him to remove the ox hide, they then urinate on the ox hide and instructed him to bury it. Some time later a boy was born who Hyrieus called Urion (urine born) 2. The rising and setting of the constellation of Orion was thought to be followed by storms and rain.

There has been a great deal written about Orion by modern writers, for example the book ‘The Orion Mystery’ by Robert Bauval and Adrian Gilbert,  looks at the link between position of the Giza pyramids and the major stars of Orion.

The Giza site offers a good example of archaeoastronomy. Build around 3000B.C. the pyramids are aligned to the compass directions, each side faces east, west, north, abd south perfectly. Furthermore, at 3000B.C. the pole star was Thuban in constellation Draco, meaning passages in the north face of the pyramids emerge to pointed at this star. One theory is that the Giza site was designed to mirror the sky, the three pyramids represent belt stars of constellation Orion, the Sphinx is constellation Leo and the Nile the Milky Way.  Orion here is seen as Osiris, the God of the underworld and resurrection 3.

However, view of Orion in the Egyptian religion being Osiris is a controversial one, as some hold the view Orion was seen as Horus, son of Osiris. This controversy has little effect on the archaeoastronomy of the Giza site, as either way it demonstrate the importance of the stars to Egyptian religion.

What we are concerned with here with is working with constellation Orion and using Egyptian sources as example. The question of Orion being Osiris or Horus needs examining further. While father and son both have close links, there are also significant differences.  For an answer to this, we will use Plutarch as our source:

‘For when the Egyptians themselves tell us that Hermes had one hand shorter than another, that Typhon was of red complexion, Horus fair, and Osiris black, does not this show that they were of the human species, and subject to the same accidents as all other men? Nay, they go farther, and even declare the particular work in which each was engaged whilst alive. Thus they say that Osiris was a general, that Canopus, from whom the star took its name, was a pilot, and that the ship which the Greeks call Argo, being made in imitation of the ship of Osiris, was, in honor of him, turned into a constellation and placed near Orion and the Dog-star, the former being sacred to Horus and the latter to Isis 4’.

The above passage assigns Horus to Orion, Isis to Sirius, and Osiris to Canopus/Argo. Further arguments for Orion being Horus and Canopus being Osiris can found in ‘The Canopus Revelation: The Stargate of the Gods and the Ark of Osiris.’ by Philip Coppens.

In my view, the Greek/Roman myths of Orion better align with myths of Horus than those of Osiris. For example both Greek/Roman Orion and Egyptian Horus are great warriors. Orion is chasing the daughters of Atlas the seven sisters: the constellation Pleiades, while Horus is partnered with Hathor (seven Hathors being Pleiades). Orion loses his sight and Horus loses an eye, both have their vision healed. Finally, Orion and Horus also both get bitten by a scorpion.

Some other world myths also see Orion as a warrior, for example in Epic of Gilgamesh, the Bull of Heaven (the constellation Taurus) is killed by Gilgamesh (Orion) and his friend Enkidu. In short, constellation Orion be it the Greek Giant hunter, or the Roman solider, or Egyptian Horus warrior, all play on the same warrior god theme.  The following the modern rite is designed to connect to constellation Orion in using Greek, Roman and Egyptian texts, with a focus on Horus. One part of the rite includes visualization of Temple of Horus at Edfu, it is recommended that the participants memories the structure and map of the temple before hand.

At Temple of Horus at Edfu. Note the Mithras print on the T-shirt.

The Temple at Edfu contains images honoring Hathor and Horus together as partners and was part of the ‘The Festival of the Beautiful Reunion’ (see http://www.philae.nu/akhet/BeautReun.html ). The Seven Hathors are an aspect of Hathor, they were seven women in ritual dress who were present at the child birth and would one by one tell the child’s fortune. They were identified as the Pleiades. Hathor means the ‘house of Horus’.

Some view Min as the constellation Orion, however Min became linked with Horus, who was also a God of the raised arm (shape of Orion). This linking to Horus continued for sometime before the two deities diverged Horus became seen more of a solar deity, and Min more as a fertility deity. Some work show Orion as Min, and the 3 bright stars of Orion’s belt as an erect phallus and fertility. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Min_(god)

Orion-Horus rite

Set up

  • Location: a place with good visibility of stars. (If indoor with Stellar maps on altar).
  • Candles or tea lights to be lit and place on altar in shape of constellation Orion
  • Central fire lit (if needed due to cold) but kept to a size not to effect the night vision too much.
  • Time to perform this rite is determined using a Star-globe or Star-chart to ensure visibility of the Orion constellation.
  • Clothing: sensible outdoor clothing & footwear.
  • A Sistrum.
  • Altar cloth to have stars on it.
  • A Hawk feather if possible.
  • Offerings to Horus.
  • Face paint or body paint e.g.  Henna or Woad or commercial ones from party shops.
  • Food and drink to share.

Horus – Orion Altar.

Use the body paint (e.g. Hena) to draw the stars of Orion (as large dots) on your body, in positions shown in usual pictures of Orion. The two upper stars are on the shoulders (Betelgeuse left shoulder).  The three stars of Orion’s belt are on the waist, the two lower stars of the sword’s scabbard are on the right thigh, and the two bottom stars are on the knees (Rigel left knee, Saiph right knee).

Opening.

  • All begin with the tree mediation to root your self to earth before reaching for the stars.
‘Tree meditation’: visualise yourself growing roots into the earth and making connection. Allow roots to come out of your feet into the earth and then feel the earth energy raise up, to your ankles, calves, knees, thighs, and groin, up the spine. Higher up the spine to the back of the neck. Feel the energy filling the front of your body, stomach, chest and then down the arms. Next, let the energy reach your head and filling with its light. Imagine yourself as tree, with roots in soil and in the past. Its tree trunk solid in the present and your branches reaching the future and high into the sky and basking in sunlight. Feel yourself centred and connected to both sky and earth. Then visualise the circle.
  • All hold hands and cast circle as expansion of tree meditation forming a sacred Grove.
  • Each person is visualising being a tree, when you hold hands, the trees begin connecting and a Grove of trees is formed.
  • All seven directions to be open by volunteers using their own words. East (air), South (fire), West (water), North (earth). Above, below, and within.

TO THE STARS. (The Hymns of Orpheus)
WITH holy voice I call the stars on high,
Pure sacred lights and genii of the sky.
Celestial stars, the progeny of Night,
In whirling circles beaming far your light,
Refulgent rays around the heav’ns ye throw,
Eternal fires, the source of all below.
With flames significant of Fate ye shine,
And aptly rule for men a path divine.
In seven bright zones ye run with wand’ring flames,
And heaven and earth compose your lucid frames:
With course unwearied, pure and fiery bright
Forever shining thro’ the veil of Night.
Hail twinkling, joyful, ever wakeful fires!
Propitious shine on all my just desires;
These sacred rites regard with conscious rays,
And begin our works devoted to your praise 5.

Light the candles which are set in shape of stars of constellation Orion.

Declare your intent as wanting to connect to Orion and to ‘draw down’ the power of Orion into yourself (if that is part of your intent).

While looking at the constellation, next take the stance of Orion, right arm raised like holding a sword, left arm holding a shield.

Mediate on constellation Orion while standing in this position for few minutes.

When you feel ready recite the following hymn to Horus. Before you recite visualise a door in front of you which has the stars of Orion painted on it.
‘101. A hymn of praise to Horus to glorify him, which is to be said over the waters and over the land.
Thoth spoke and this god recited [the following]:–
Homage to you, god, son of a god. Homage to you, heir, son of an heir.. Homage to you, bull, son of a bull, who was brought  forth by a holy goddess. Homage to you, Horus, who comes forth from Osiris, and was brought forth by the goddess Isis. I recite your  words of power, I speak with your magical utterance. I pronounce a spell in your own words, which your heart has created, and all the spells and incantations which have come forth from your mouth, which your father Keb commanded you [to recite], and your mother Nut gave to you, and the majesty of the Governor of Sekhem taught you to make use of for your protection, in order to double (or, repeat) your protective formulae, to shut the mouth of  every reptile which is in heaven, and on the earth, and in  the waters, to make men and women to live, to make the gods to be at peace [with you], and to make Ra to employ his magical spells  through your chants of praise. Come to me this day, quickly, quickly, as you work the paddle of the Boat of the god. Drive you away from me every lion on the plain, and every crocodile in the waters, and all mouths which bite (or, sting) in their holes.  Make you them before me like the stone of the mountain, like a broken pot lying about in a quarter of the town. Dig you out from me the poison which was raised and is in every member of him that is under the knife. Keep you watch over him by means of your words. Verily let your name be invoked this day. Let your power (qefau) come into being in him. Exalt you your magical powers. Make me to live and him whose throat is closed up. Then shall mankind give you praise, and the righteous shall give thanks unto your forms. And all the gods likewise shall invoke you, and in truth your name shall be invoked this day. I am Horus of Shetenu .
O you who art in the cavern, O you who art in the cavern. O you who art at the mouth of the cavern. O you who art on the way, O you who art on the way. O you who art at the mouth of the way. He is Urmer (Mnevis) who approaches every man and every beast. He is like the god Sep who is in Anu (Heliopolis). He is the Scorpion-[god] who is in the Great House (Het-ur). Bite him not, for he is Ra. Sting him not, for he is Thoth. Shoot you not your poison over him, for he is Nefer-Tem. O every male serpent, O every female serpent, O every antesh (scorpion?) which bite with your mouths, and sting with your tails, bite him not with your mouths, and sting him not with your tails. Get ye afar off from him, make ye not your fire to be against him, for he is the son of Osiris. Vomit ye.
I am Thoth, I have come from heaven to make protection of Horus, and to drive away the poison of the scorpion which is in every member of Horus. Your head is to you, Horus; it shall be stable under the Urert Crown. Your eye is to you, Horus, [for] you art Horus, the son of Keb, the Lord of the Two Eyes, in the midst of the Company [of the gods]. Your nose is to you, Horus, [for] you art Horus the Elder, the son of Ra, and you shall not inhale the fiery wind. Your arm is to you, Horus, great is your strength to slaughter the enemies of your father. Your two thighs are to you, Horus. Receive you the rank and dignity of your father Osiris. Ptah has balanced for you your mouth on the day of your birth. Your heart (or, breast) is to you, Horus, and the Disk makes your protection. Your eye is to you, Horus; your right eye is like Shu, and your left eye like Tefnut, who are the children of Ra. Your belly is to you, Horus, and the Children are the gods who are therein, and they shall not receive the essence (or, fluid) of the scorpion. Your strength is to you, Horus, and the strength of Set shall not exist against you. Your phallus is to you, Horus, and you art Kamutef, the protector of his father, who makes an answer for his children  in the course of every day. Your thighs are to you, Horus, and your strength shall slaughter the enemies of your father. Your calves are to you, Horus; the god Khnemu has built them, and the goddess Isis has covered them with flesh. The soles of your feet are to you, Horus, and the nations who fight with the bow (Peti) fall under your feet. You rule the South, North, West, and East, and you see like Ra. [Say] four times. And likewise him that is under the knife.
Beautiful god, Senetchem-ab-Ra-setep-[en]-Amen, son of Ra, Nekht-Heru-Hebit, you art protected, and the gods and goddesses are protected, and conversely. Beautiful god, Senetchem-ab-Ra-setep-[en]-Ra, son of Ra, Nekht-Heru-Hebit, you art protected, and Heru-Shet[enu], the great god, is protected, and conversely.’6

Once you have recited the hymn visualise the door opening, step inside begin your journey to meet Horus-Orion.

If you are planning to use astral temple based on Horus temple of Edfu, at this point, remember the map of the temple you have studied. Then visualise your self once you step through the door to be standing outside great temple in front of the split pylon. Make your way through the gate, you may meet a guardian at these gates who ask why you are entering. State your reason. In the courtyard  take your time to look at the surrounding and the columns, make a mental note of what you see or hear, when ready make your way to the Hypostyle hall. There might be other pilgrims also making their way. As you the hypostyle hall you might be asked some questions by guardians of this doorway. Take your time and observe your surrounding, note any carving and inscription on the wall. If you feel you want to continue make your way to the second hypostyle hall. Once more you may be asked questions by the guardian of the gateway. Again take time and pay attention to your surrounding. Once ready enter the offering hall, here you will leave your offering and you might be asked what the offering symbolises to you. Then proceed to the heart of the temple out of the offering hall and toward inner sanctum. There are number of chambers hear, follow your instinct and make your personal contact. Take your time.

Once ready make your back from the inner sanctum to offering hall back through the hypostyle halls and to the court yard, and out through the split pylon to outside in front of the temple. Step through the door which had the Orion stars painted on and back to your circle.

- Communion of Bread and Wine. Saying the following (from Grace before a Meal – Temple of Edfu (girdle-wall):

O Table-god (Atum), You have spat forth Shu from your mouth (…) O Table-god, may he (the king as Shu) give to You all that he will have dedicated, since he has become a god who is an emanation, alert, worshipful and powerful. (…) May he dedicate to You every good thing which You will give him, since he has become Heka. May he dedicate to You every good thing, food-offerings in abundance. May he set them before You and may You be content with them, may your Ka be content with them (…)

Be satisfied and worshipful, O Living Falcon, lord of the Two Lands, lord of the Nobles, lord of the common folk, lord of the Seat of Re, lord of gods, through the offerings which this son of yours brings to You, this Worshipfulness of yours, this Ka of yours, this Heka of yours, this Ptah of yours, this Shu of yours, this Thoth of yours, this abundance of yours upon Earth. May You be content and worshipful with them. May your Ka be content with them, and Your heart be content with them for ever.7

-Saying of thanks to spirits of the place.

-Sending of Blessings.

-Final thanks to Horus and Orion.

-Say Thanks to THE STARS. (The Hymns of Orpheus)

The Mass of the PhoenixLIBER XLIV

The Magician, his breast bare, stands before an altar on which are his
Burin, Bell, Thurible, and two of the Cakes of Light. In the Sign of the Enterer
he reaches West across the Altar, and cries:

Hail Ra, that goest in thy bark

Into the caverns of the Dark!

He gives the sign of Silence, and takes the Bell, and Fire, in his hands.

East of the Altar see me stand

With light and musick in my hand!

He strikes Eleven times upon the Bell 333 – 55555 – 333 and places
the Fire in the Thurible.

I strike the Bell: I light the Flame;

I utter the mysterious Name.

ABRAHADABRA

He strikes eleven times upon the Bell.

Now I begin to pray: Thou Child,

Holy Thy name and undefiled!

Thy reign is come; Thy will is done.

Here is the Bread; here is the Blood.

Bring me through midnight to the Sun!

Save me from Evil and from Good!

That Thy one crown of all the Ten

Even now and here be mine. AMEN.

He puts the first Cake on the Fire of the Thurible.

I burn the Incense-cake, proclaim

These adorations of Thy name.

He makes them as in Liber Legis, and strikes again Eleven times upon the
Bell. With the Burin he then makes upon his breast the proper sign.

Behold this bleeding breast of mine

Gashed with the sacramental sign!

He puts the second Cake to the wound.

I stanch the Blood; the wafer soaks

It up, and the high priest invokes!

He eats the second Cake.

This Bread I eat. This Oath I swear

As I enflame myself with prayer:

“There is no grace: there is no guilt:

This is the Law: DO WHAT THOU WILT!”

He strikes Eleven times upon the Bell, and cries

ABRAHADABRA.

I entered in with woe; with mirth

I now go forth, and with thanksgiving,

To do my pleasure on the earth

Among the legions of the living.

He goeth forth.

Sliding down the Ladder; a Nameless Aeon Working

– Zossian 3930.

The aspirant shall mentally, physically and spiritually prepare him/her self to come “unstuck” in time and space. This means anticipating the form major ego anxiety attacks will take and making peace with all aspects of his/her life as is possible, according to Love & Will.1. The aspirant will secure a warm room and bathroom and make sure that he/she shall remained undisturbed for at least 12 hours.  An altar representing the universe of aspirant with a mirror thereon shall be present in the room as well as a pad, pen, simple bowl of water and a quantity of sea salt.2. The temple shall be made pure, the Self shall be centered. Sacraments of his/her mystery shall be accepted/used  to energize the rite. The circle shall be cast to encompass the bath & ritual area. The circle is the Body of the Mother, the bath is the Womb of the Mother.

3. The meditation shall begin. The aspirant shall dispassionately examine his/her entire life, specifically noting those things that caused particular emotional attachment; desire or repulsion. Each of these Key Attachments shall be noted on the paper at hand in either written or sigil form. The more automatic the better. As the chain is followed back and back, more will appear. One should go back as far as possible to the earliest conscious memory.
Then darkness.

3. Repeating the Mantra MA the bath shall be filled with hot water and the sea salt shall be added.

4. With Mantras and Actions that come spontaneously, the paper shall be empowered and burnt. The ashes shall be dropped into the bowl of water. He/she shall see the attachments and the life so released as the illusion it was. Does Not Matter, Need Not Be. The aspirant shall have no name, desires, fears, memories or being.

5. The only light shall be extinguished and the aspirant shall stand before the bath. He/she shall pour the contents of the bowl into the water and with it his consciousness.

6. He/she shall enter the bath-womb of the Mother. He/she shall remain there in foetal position. So the Work begins.

Find the Point of Light.
Enter it.
Find the double helix of the DNA
Enter it. You are now the Messenger; RNA.
Experiment and Play; all memories are here.
Find the Keys and Regress.
Mammal-form
Bird-form
Reptile-form
Amphibian-form
Fish-form
Invertebrate-form
Single Cell.

(Consciousness must be kept in the DNA during this; to identify too closely with a form that attracts or repels merely replaces previous attachments with new ones and halts the work. It could be dangerous. Once begun, one MUST go to the end, at least the first time.)

One Cell. United. Not split; whole.
Activate the final Keys in the DNA; they will be obvious.
The entire strand shall unravel and dissolve into 4 basic amino-acids.
There shall be light.
This is THE BORNLESS ONE.
…..

8. At a certain time one shall emerge, grasping certain non-verbal things. Reverse the process. Reform as a foetus. Go through the phases of evolution/body formation. Choose your new incarnation.
Emerge from the womb of your Mother with a Cry.

9. Dry quickly and retire to the altar. Wrap the body in blankets. Rest. Explore this new world in silence. Record in any form those few hints or names that are necessary. In silence thank the powers for the body and mind that contain all necessary for the Work. Close your circle in silence. Sleep.

10. Later; pour some of the “womb” water onto the Earth or into a stream or, better yet, an ocean. All is one, the One is None. Give thanks for now holding one of the keys to this.

11. Use what you have received.

Love/Will; HA!

Comment;

This is simple, but it is remarkably effective. It can  be readily combined with a full Magickal retirement or Somic Journey. It is important to keep warm, the rooms should be actually hot. It is vital that one is not disturbed, especially after the real work has begun; this can not be stressed highly enough. This rite is a primal initiation pattern. Wild emotion/atavism swings shall occur; do NOT leave the bath. Extremely powerful Dark Entities may appear. Do NOT deal with these, at least the first time. Once you have your own Bornless Keys, then consider the possibilities. After the glimpse of ….. a profound depression may hit in the days following one’s return to the mundane. Constant meditation and ritual use of what you have received is important at this time. A diary should be kept.
I am interested in hearing from any who have done this rite.

11 Star Rite

The first encounter I had with Elevenstar occurred in the late 1970′s with a soundless voice telling me, ‘The thrones must be filled.’

Usually the voice isn’t so cryptic, but since it wasn’t going to elaborate, I filed the statement away in memory. The meaning would come over the next few months in the form of unlearned knowledge, without many visual or audible clues. The information concerned both theory and practice, purpose and methodology, as any complete magickal Working must have.

The practice part manifested on several occasions in which I participated, and on several others conducted by colleagues elsewhere. I was present for the ritual at Winterstar in 1985 at Atwood Lake, Ohio, at the Math of Chrystal Humm in Spencer, New York in 1987, and at the Harmonic Convergence public ritual in August, 1987 in Seattle, Washington. These were all group rituals, but the rite can be adapted for individual use.

The Thrones correspond to the Spheres on the Tree of Life, plus the non-Sphere of Daath; eleven in all. A throne is the mastery and practice of a given Sphere in the life of a Magickian-Priest. With dedication to the Elevenstar, the mastery and practice extends itself to monitor and adjust the global operation of that Sphere.

A full course of Initiation ensures knowledge of the essence of the Spheres, whether or not the tradition includes Qaballah as a formal pert of its course. Elevenstar aims to coordinate Magickally a collegium of practitioners world- wide who operate a particular Sphere in mastery within their personal lives and who assume responsibility for that Sphere’s function in the lives of our species. The practitioners don’t have to know each other personally on the physical plane or have to live in a single area. The minimum number of people required to manifest the Elevenstar is twenty-one; two for each Sphere and one for Daath. There is no maximum limit on the number of participants.

The Elevenstar collegium is a talisman of Priests who effect the development of humanity directly via their own self-evolutionary work. It’s a prototype of the species we are developing into, Homo veritas, and serves as both a Magickal model and a seed-crystal around which the new species can form itself. As it grows, it radiates its influence to touch those who are on the brink of change and encourages the awakening of all human souls.

The Elevenstar activates that part of our DNA which enables the functioning of double consciousness without undue effort and practice; while Homo sapiens individuals can become Homo veritas by dint of Will and hard work, the next generation can be born as Homo veritas.

In order to understand the nature of the Elevenstar formation, each point of the star is assigned a Sphere of the Tree of Life; the following gable gives the Sphere, its corresponding godform, and the pair of Tarot Trumps that characterize its nature.

Considering the factors together can give a holographic clue to the nature of each Throne. An important thing to remember is that the points are arranged in a circle; there is no linear hierarchy is in the Tree of Life. The Thrones are equally powerful, important, and necessary.

CORRESPONDENCES

Nuit
Nuit is the starry night sky, arching above the Earth. She is the space(Universe)-time(Aeon) continuum, everything that exists in physical reality. Her Sphere is Malkuth, the Kingdom. Initiated perception sees physical reality as an expression of the absolute, the tangible result of the play of the four elements, the three gunas, the ten Spheres, or any other combination of forces. Nuit/Malkuth includes subatomic particles and the binding forces of the atom as well as all existing galactic clusters and everything in between.

The Cosmos is an illusion springing from the reality of Nothingness; nevertheless, this illusion/Maya/Malkuth is the object of Magickal work. We work in Maya to assist its changes; we devote our time in the flesh to guarding and assisting the course of evolution throughout the world.

There are some Initiates who haven’t achieved the proper appreciation of physical reality, preferring to ‘only work on the Astral.’ The earthing is the most important part of Magick; it completes the circuit of energy that’s necessary for change. Unearthed by the Initiate, the energy seeks its own grounding. The means it uses to ground may be twisted, damaged or destroyed.

Nuit as the image of the Kingdom puts the importance of the physical world in its proper perspective. She is vast, beyond the ability of our finest scientific instruments to encompass Her. It is a royal and holy condition, to be part of the body of Nuit.

Hadit
Hadit is the point of view that experiences the starry night-sky and the space-time continuum that is Nuit. His Sphere is Yesod. This is the Sphere of Lunar energies, the Racial Unconscious, the Astral planes, atavisms, and emotions. Hadit is a dimensionless point of awareness, the ultimate self-consciousness. The Sphere of Yesod is the base of Hadit’s nature, but by no means is it the limitation of that nature. Emotions convince us of our reality–’I feel, therefore I am.’ The Trumps, Lust and The Hermit, indicate the type of balance to be achieved in mastering this Throne.

Lust means more than just sexual desire. It is the universal force of attraction that permits shapes to maintain coherence in the constant dance of Matter/energy. Lust is the voice of Nuit calling to Hadit, the yearning of Hadit for union with Nuit. The force of Lust permits the perception of the interconnectedness of all things in a vast, glittering webwork.

The Hermit is the essence of the single unit, complete in itself, a seed, a cell that contains all potential proliferation and growth. Ordinary perception sees the hermit as solitary and isolated, out of contact with others, dwelling apart in the wilderness. Initiated consciousness sees the Hermit as the Universe contained within the self-aware point of view. The desire of Lust is fulfilled in the completion and self-sufficiency of the Hermit.

This Trump pair indicates the formula for mastery of Yesod. As Sri Ramakrishna once expressed it, ‘Which is better–to taste the sugar or to be the sugar?’ A fine balance of the tension of desire with the relaxation of fulfillment will enable the point of view to be sane, healthy, and to maintain a true vision of the Work. If we work with distorted vision in the Astral realms, the manifestations in the physical world will be distorted also. Magick works by bringing events into physical existence through energizing Astral constructs of the desired manifestations.

It is in and from the Astral menstruum that we fashion the armature or framework around which matter-energy takes form. With sanity and balance ruling the Throne of Hadit, the manifestations of the Elevenstar are pre-formed precisely on the Astral, leading to precise and accurate actualization on the physical plane.

Ra-Hoor-Khuit
Ra-Hoor-Khuit is the hawk-headed representation of the sun, Ra, as Warrior. The Sphere of his Throne is Tiphereth and the designated Trump pair is The Sun and The Moon.

The Warrior is the person who is aware of the environment and remains ready for correct action. As Castaneda’s Don Juan Matus says, ‘A warrior must be impeccable.’ This means that the Warrior deals with internal imperfections and weaknesses, correcting them before the environment’s forces can destroy the Warrior through these breaches in his/her spiritual integument.

This Throne operates through the combination of the Sun and the Moon. Ra-Hoor- Khuit is a solar god. In the latitudes of Egypt, the sun can be devastating to human life, burning, fierce, relentless. So it is with the force of True Will. Nothing can balk True Will of its manifestation.

The Moon shines by reflected light, generating none of its own. The Warrior of the Throne of Ra-Hoor-Khuit becomes Will-in-action; when this Magickal transformation happens, the Warrior’s bodies and faculties reflect the fire of Will. One becomes the channel for Will, and in the process, becomes Will itself. This is the Sun. One’s bodies align with the purpose of channelling Will, and in the process of the channelling, reflect the internal flow in their beauty of form. This is the Moon.

The Throne of Ra-Hoor-Khuit coordinates all the Thrones in the process of manifesting Will, that is, carrying out the purposes of the Elevenstar collegium. In practical terms, the Throne takes the myriad of possibilities presented by the Throne of Pan (Chesed) and chooses which strands of events are to become mainstream reality. This choice is made by the entire Elevenstar acting through the Throne of Ra-Hoor-Khuit. The essence of this Throne is harmony and balance, wherein harmony is the correct proportion of influences from all the Spheres.

Pan
The Throne of Pan represents Chesed (Mercy) on the Tree, and its Trump pair is The Devil and The Tower. There seems to be an incongruence here; Chesed is Mercy, and is traditionally attributed to Jupiter. These images are more benign than those of the Devil, the Tower, and Pan.

However, Pan is the All-Begetter as well as the All-Devourer. The Devil is the surprise of existence. The joy of surprise enriches the sense of humor (Jove-iality) which is so necessary to the Throne of Pan.

One function of this Throne is to maintain the proper level of levity in Elevenstar. Too much gravity paralyzes action. Gravity makes one pompous and stodgy if allowed to exceed its proper measure. Thus the thunderous laughter of Pan in the Sphere of Chesed destroys the evil of taking oneself too seriously.

The Tower is the force of destruction. In its function of architect and judge, Chesed must choose what needs to be cleared away from the building site, or what part of the block is chiseled away so the statue can emerge. The Tower card in the Thoth deck depicts the Eye of Shiva blasting the tower of false certitude. (‘My mind’s made up, so don’t bother me with the facts.’) The Throne of Pan keeps an open mind in the Elevenstar by maintaining impartiality and balance in discovering and presenting the options of action to all the Spheres.

Babalon
The Throne of Babalon supervises the initiating force of Netzach; the Trumps are The Priestess and The Hierophant. The Throne of Babalon focuses the Magickal Current on all the Spheres. Her influence causes quantum leaps of comprehension.

The Sphere of Netzach is linked with Venus. It concerns relationships and creativity. Initiation can be seen as progressive stages in the relationship of the individual with the Cosmos. In Elevenstar, the Throne of Babalon inspires all the Thrones to continue internal development so that the function of the Thrones becomes more efficient and effective.

Netzach is the basic Sphere of Sex Magick, one of the most powerful ways of Initiating, though not necessarily one-on-one with the candidate. A general approach is the use of Sex Magick to activate one’s own Hierophantic ability and power. One is then capable of radiating the Initiatory energy without having to plan specific actions. On the other hand, Initiation through making love with the candidate can be effective if all conditions are right. It’s wise to remember that a Magickal link is formed with everyone with whom you have sex. This link provides the channel through which Initiatory energy is transferred. The link works both ways, so it pays to be selective in choosing partners.

It’s also wise to remember that a Hierophant need not know more than the candidate in order to be effective–the Hierophant need only know the candidate. In this knowing, one works the Priest/ess emphasis using intuitive empathy to deal with colleagues Angel-to-Angel, or at the level of our starry natures.

The Trumps of the Priestess and the Hierophant aren’t redundant. Both deal with the Initiatory process but from different directions; in simple terms, the Priestess is the carrot and the Hierophant is the stick.

The Throne of Babalon supervises Initiatory energies both internally with the Elevenstar and externally with the human race at large. An example of the Priestess mode is the vision of Homo veritas; the knowledge that human evolution doesn’t end with Homo sapiens enables us to consciously direct, for the first time in our history, our transition into a new species. An example of the Hierophant mode is Nightmare, a dark type of Elevenstar initiation: surround the deliberately obtuse, the spiritually stubborn sleepers with images of their fears and atavisms, and they gladly choose to awaken.

A balance is struck between the modes of Priestess and Hierophant. On the Tree, both Trumps pertain to paths that cross the Abyss; the Priestess links Kether and Tiphereth, the Hierophant links Chokmah and Chesed. The Throne- holders of Babalon might find that a secret lures better than a statement.

Shaitan-Aiwass
The Throne of Shaitan-Aiwass commands the Sphere of Geburah. The Trumps are The Magus and The Star.

Although Geburah is traditionally considered a martial Sphere, the essence of it is strength, not aggression. The function of the Throne of Shaitan-Aiwass is to provide power, endurance, and duration to the Elevenstar Working (Vishnu/preserver aspect) and to remove all interference with the manifestation of Will (a Shiva/destroyer aspect.)

The throne-holders of Shaitan-Aiwass deal with power and power-sources. This Throne requires the ability to recognize power psychically and to be able to channel it into the Work Magickally. Most Initiates of my acquaintance can sense a power-place or power-object. The Throne-holders of Shaitan-Aiwass refine and intensify this sense through a yoga peculiar to this Sphere. They become the power through union with it, then direct themselves totally into the Work at hand.

The Geburah function here is to link the Work with the inevitability of Will/Tao/Magickal Current. The Magus speaks his word Òso the falsehood thereof ensnares the souls of men. This is so because all words are false in that no work can completely encompass and express the truth. The Star represents the Magickal current.

If the Work at hand is spoken and spoken of as truly as possible, it will manifest. The Magickian becomes the Word as he/she becomes the power. Information (the Word of the Magus) combined with power (the Current represented by the Star) is a major way of Magickal operation. This way of Geburah uses the Logos formula reshaped for the New Aeon: The Word was made flesh and dwelt amongst us.

Therion
The Throne of Therion (the Beast) expresses Hod on the Tree, and its Trumps are The Emperor and The Empress.

Hod is associated with the godforms of Mercury, Hermes, Tehuti, Hanuman, etc. The Beast is a figure taken from the Book of Revelations to represent a humanity responsible for its own destiny, an unfallen species which needs no salvation other than its own awakening. Our growing mental, emotional, and moral complexities have outpaced our understanding and wisdom. These complexities , ungrasped and unprocessed, give rise to the Nightside of our nature and to the concepts of evil and sin.

Tehuti and the other Mercurial gods (glyphs for inquiry, thought and memory) taught Magick, science, art and craft to mankind. Our difficulties stem from ignorance, not from Original Sin. Hermes is a healing godform, Hanuman a loyal assistant; Mercury is logic and communication.

One function of the Throne of Therion is to reason, to manipulate facts, events, and patterns in ever-changing constellations, then communicating the configurations which exhibit the most logic to the other Thrones for consideration. Thinking alone is rarely an adequate base for action; it works best in conjunction with intuition and instinct.

Another function of the Throne is the monitoring of health–of the individual, of the Elevenstar collegium and of the species as a whole. Healing is accomplished through balance and proper infusions of energy.

A third function of the Throne of Therion is teaching. Teaching differs from Initiation in that teaching presents a description of an experience to a person; with Initiation, a person lives through the experience. Knowing the description of an event can help one recognize the event when it happens, but in no way can a description substitute for the experience itself.

The Emperor and The Empress describe the attitude and methods suited to this Throne. The Emperor is a figure of responsibility and power. The Empress is a figure of generosity and care. These Trumps reflect the influence of Chesed (Pan) in the processes of Hod/Therion. Intellection is guided by the more spiritual faculty of intuition. Responsibility governs the processes of reason; a running comparison of theory with fact keeps thinking true. Communication of rational truth is kept lucid and as simple as possible.

In practice, the Throne of Therion processes options for action, assessing the merits of each choice, and presenting the findings of its work to the other Thrones. It considers ways of implementing a chosen manifestation; it considers ways of presenting information.

The teaching function of Elevenstar is not essentially concerned with educating the general public (although obvious opportunities are not to be neglected); rather, information is to be made available to Initiates, Adepts and Priests who may qualify and have an interest in the Elevenstar Working. Internal education is the main area of concern with this Throne, not through didactic statement, but rather through discussion and demonstration.

Will
The Throne of Will is attributed to Chokmah on the Tree; its Trumps are The Chariot and Fortune. The concern of this Throne is with the evolutionary next step of humanity, and this concern is dealt with by the linking with the species as a whole through the DNA.

This Throne requires psychic contact with the human DNA in order to activate the next segments beyond their present operations. This is done by using the sphere of awareness or the molecular level and learning about the particular glow that characterizes activation. One then projects energy into the atoms at the edge of the glow, causing the light of activation to spread.

The Trumps of The Chariot and Fortune both depict wheels, which signify go-ing or progress as well as a helix when the wheels move sideways along their axles as they rotate. The wheels reflect the expanding universe with galaxies coalescing as starry bubble-froth as well as the Primum Mobile aspect of Chokmah. The Chariot images Krishna as Arjuna’s charioteer in the Bhagavad-Gita while Fortune’s wheel is akin to the inexorable Jagernath cart of Shiva.

In the matter of human evolution, the Throne of Will guides our self-development. Humanity today differs from historical and prehistorical humanity in that our technology permits us to control our environment to a greater extent. This environmental control has increased the number of mutagens we live with, as well a s providing the means of recombinant DNA research, and worldwide instantaneous communications. The technology of change on all planes increases in its performance and subsequent benefits according to the amount of information freely available about it.

We have the means to shape ourselves in accord with our highest visions. That we have yet to do so indicates the nature of the task of thus Throne. In conjunction with the Thrones of Pan, Therion, and Love in particular, the Work of the Throne of Will concerns the shaping and sharing of what humanity is coming to be–a self-conscious species that acts ethically toward itself, its home planet, and all other species it contacts.

Love
The Throne of Love accommodates Binah; its Trumps are The Lovers and Art.

The essence of love is union; the Work of this Throne is to unite past, present and future in one eternal mode of being. The Trumps for this Throne are the two most obviously alchemical cards in the Tarot.

Alchemy deals with transformation; in the Elevenstar, we transform a divided and competitive species into a cooperative, consciously unified one by achieving these qualities as individuals and then applying them Magickally. We are at a point of technological development where old formulae of living need not apply. ‘By the sweat of thy brow shalt thou earn thy bread’ spoke of a time when human and animal labor were the only means of agriculture, construction, travel and materials-processing. Today, our machines and computers could provide the necessities and luxuries of life for everyone were it not for the concepts of profit, wealth and exclusivity.

Binah is traditionally the Sphere of Time, of Saturn. In the mastery of this Sphere, the Throne of Love sees the unity of our species from its dim origins to its translation beyond the physical plane. From our beginnings we grow numerous and scatter, settling far-flung places, diverging in habits, languages and customs. We adapt to climates of all types.

We adopt a psychologically correct religion for the needs of our times; institutions which encrust religions try to preserve outmoded forms. We transcend sectarianism when freedom of inquiry prevails and science flourishes. Science produces technology, technology changes our ways of living and therefore of ways of seeing the universe and our place in it. Attitudes and instincts which helped us survive in pre-technological times are deliberately changed into power-sources for creativity, guided by the vision of ourselves-to-be.

If news stories and current events seem to contradict this description, the Work of the Throne of Love lies in the area of contradiction.

The Lovers is attributed to Zain, a sword, and to the sign of Gemini–a depiction of humanity’s present condition of a people divided against itself. The Art card links with Sagittarius and through the imagery of the archer, the components of bow and arrow combine in action to become a single engine of accuracy, velocity, and penetration.

The secret of unity lies in shared Work.

Truth

The Throne of Truth lives in Kether; its Trumps are the Fool and Adjustment. Truth is Themis in Greek.

The task of the Throne of Truth is to attune itself to the Tao/Magickal Current/Will. Our physical bodies, our minds, our aesthetic sense, our art, all attest to the Intelligence which informs existence. We are the essence of and the vehicles for the Will of Intelligence and of Intelligence itself.

Intelligence means, according to Webster, ‘the ability to learn or understand or to deal with new or trying situations; the skilled use of reason; the ability to apply knowledge to manipulate one’s environment or to think abstractly…; ‘ information (concerning an enemy). I broaden the last to include any type of information. Attunement to Intelligence is attunement to one’s deepest self, the core of Nothingness at the heart of all things.

The Trumps give us a hint of the necessary viewpoint for the Throne of Truth. The Fool is the Zero, the innocent youth, one who is open to everything and experienced in nothing. There are no expectations, prejudices or preconceptions. Adjustment is the card of balance, proportionality and aesthetics. The Throne of Truth is totally open to the flow of existence from nonexistence; the flow radiates through the Throne to the Elevenstar in balanced rays. Anyone operating from the throne of Truth will radiate to the general environment also, but since the throne operates in the Vision of No Difference, the dynamics of the Elevenstar are projected onto the planet at large–all the better to link with.

The duties of this Throne are the most abstract and mystical of the Elevenstar and can only be detected in operation through an aura of intense life about the operants, an aura that generates feeling of excitement, peace, joy and wonder without any particular color to them.

In practical terms, the Throne of Truth requires a condition of no-mind meditation in its Priests. All available personal time is to be devoted to this meditation until the practice evolves to constancy during all other activities. The Throne of Truth is a dangerous responsibility since any imbalance can sever connections with the other Spheres and Thrones. In the collegium of Elevenstar, Thrones assist each other.

Heru-Pa-Kraat
The Throne of Heru-Pa-Kraat controls Daath and its cards are The Hanged Man and Death.

The extra-arboreal Sphere of Daath is sometimes called Knowledge; an attribute of Heru-Pa-Kraat is silence. The four powers of the Sphinx are: Know, Will, Dare, and Keep Silent. The task of the Throne of Daath is to maintain the invisibility of the Elevenstar.

This invisibility is not only to prevent intrusion by the unawakened, but to maintain the proper aesthetics of Elevenstar’s nature. Our Work is necessarily behind the scenes; other groups, Orders, covens, etc. can have the honors of interfacing with the general public.

The Throne of Heru-Pa-Kraat uses the images of The Hanged Man and Death to accomplish invisibility. The Hanged Man (Mem, water) recalls the reflective and refractive properties of water: keep moving and you’ll not be seen; flow and you’ll be invisible. The Trump Death (Nun, fish) maintains invisibility beyond the realms of the physical planes. There are individuals who have achieved initiation into certain aspects of Magick but who have not achieved the necessary spiritual transformation. Sometimes these incomplete ones seek out groups in which they sense power, hoping to fasten onto the power-source for their own imbalanced intentions.

Since one must have died, in the Initiatory sense of the word, to be a Priest of Elevenstar, the Death Trump will strike terror into the incomplete ones, since they fear this type of death. The Ego is not only slain in the Abyss, but reconstructed according to Will and placed in its proper position within the individual. There is a definite death of the Ego in the process of mastery, and this the incomplete ones avoid–else they would be complete.

The twenty-first priest who works the Throne of Daath posts him/herself at the gateway to the Nightside of the Tree, Since Maya is dualistic, every positive force is balanced by its reciprocal negative force. The shadow-world of the Nightside of the Tree has a sentience of its own; at times it tries to establish its mirror-reality of Dayside events as mainstream reality.

The duty of the twenty-first Priest is to monitor for any such attempt as well as for any imbalance of forces. To do this, one must become familiar with the Nightside on a conscious basis. One method of doing this is to use the sigils and names from Kenneth Grant’s Nightside of Eden and the Shadow Tarot by Linda Falorio. Other methods may be devised from the ingenuity of the practitioner.

Organizational Notes

Those who wish to operate a particular throne will be able to find the Elevenstar. Throne-holders are not to recruit others to this Work, but are required to provide the necessary information to sincere enquirers. Acknowledgement by current Throne-holders of the aspirant’s mastery of his/her chosen Throne is all that’s required for an aspirant to become a participant. This is open to debate.

The length of time any person operates a particular Throne should be limited to a year. As mentioned before, all participants should be capable of operating from any Throne; a limited term for holding a single Throne will prevent individual and group imbalance. In such a practice will the Elevenstar be as protean and flexible as the Work demands. When the time comes to change to new Thrones, trust the Current to provide the omens and portents to indicate which one it should be. Trust your intuition. The Current will guide you and your colleagues to adjust in harmony.

Regarding the Elevenstar ritual itself, at this phase of Elevenstar’s development–participants do not have to be Throne holders. The more throne holders who are participants the better, though, since like attracts like. The nature of Elevenstar rituals is such that they inspire and instruct the participants about the Thrones, thus providing a greater likelihood that participants will become Throne-holders.

Depending on the number of ritualists available, there may be multiple representations of the Thrones, or a need for a ritualist to represent more than one Throne. All participants call the god-names of the Thrones in unison, so a precise match of numbers isn’t crucial.

The following format is a suggested method; improvised variations are fine, as long as they work.

ELEVENSTAR RITE
Materials:
Eleven votive candles, a tray of sand or earth, a bowl of water, incense.

In preparation for the ritual, participants wash their hands before entering the Temple. When the ritualists are assembled, a time is spent in meditation. These acts serve to clear the attention from other concerns and ready it for the work at hand.

Though a traditional banishment is unnecessary for this rite, there is a procedure that gathers in and concentrates awareness and energy in the ritual space. The god-names and gestures proceed widdershins (counterclockwise) at the beginning of the rite for ingathering, and deosil (clockwise) at the end for distributing the forces. All stand in a circle. The tray of sand/earth and the other materials are at the center of the circle for distributing the forces.

South–Shaitan; SE–Heru-Pa-Kraat; East–Ra-Hoor-Khuit; NE–Hadit; North– Nuit; NW–Maat; West–Babalon; SW–Aiwass. Touch the ground with both hands.

(Actions and gestures are up to you; each ritualist should turn in place to face the direction of each name invoked.)

Kindle the incense and pass it from hand to hand around the circle; each one breathes upon the smoke, saying, Abrahadabra. The thrones must be filled.

Place the incense centrally in the tray of sand/earth.

Pass the bowl of water likewise. Each participant sprinkles a few drops toward the center of the circle, saying, Abrahadabra. The Thrones shall be filled.

Place the bowl next to the tray, to the West of it.

Each candle is lit, passed around the circle, then placed in its appropriate position in the tray according to the order given previously. With each candle, chant and clap (*) as it is passed around.

Fill the Throne of the World, Lady Nuit ** Lady Nuit**.
Fill the Throne of the Moon, Lord Hadit ** Lord Hadit**.
Fill the throne of the sun, Ra-Hoor-Khuit ** Ra-Hoor-Khuit**.
Fill the throne of Jupiter, IO Pan ** IO Pan**.
Fill the Throne of Venus, Babalon ** Babalon**.
Fill the throne of Mars, Shaitan Aiwass ** Shaitan Aiwass**.

After the last candle has been place in the tray, join hands and circle dance to this chant:

‘As the fire burns,
As the earth turns,
As the wind blows,
And the water flows,
So the Priests wake
and their Thrones take.
So mote it be** so mote it be.’

After three repetitions, all touch the earth with both hands, then perform the dispersal:

South–Shaitan; SW–Aiwass; West–Babalon; NW–Maat; North–Nuit; NE–Hadit; East–Ra-Hoor-Khuit; SE–Heru-Pa-Kraat.

Again touch the earth with both hands. Extinguish the candles, douse the incense in the tray, and depart.
